Tasmania is enjoying a rare white Christmas, with snow falling on elevated areas across the state, including Hobart's Kunanyi/Mt Wellington.

Temperatures at the mountain summit dropped to -1.4°C overnight, with wind chill making it feel closer to -14°C, drawing early crowds keen to see the snow as the road remains open.

Local photographer Katy Morgan made the trek up the mountain around 5am this morning, getting an incredible first glimpse of the snow

Meanwhile Abby Duce in the Central Highlands shared images of her white Christmas camping in a van by the lake, saying it was an "absolute blessing".

The Bureau of Meteorology says the snowline dipped to about 700 metres, with colder conditions easing tomorrow, while the east coast enjoyed a much milder Christmas Day.
