New project underway... console table made from messmate. Basing it on the design of the pic below.

These pieces will end up being the tabletop 1000mm x 380mm x 35mm. Lot of work to get it there!

Chopping board revival!

After over a year of usage my chopping board was looking a bit worn out so went these maintenance steps to bring it back to life:

1) Hit it with the belt sander using a 60 grit belt to remove all the knife marks

2) Then using the orbital sander smoothed the surface with 100, 180 and 240 grit

3) Hand sanded with 600 grit for a super smooth finish

4) 2 coats of food safe mineral oil

5) Finish off with 2 applications of wax to create a seal

Looks good as new again!

The new project is taking shape...after much deliberation cut the slab to size. Here just resting it on the legs checking fit in what will be its future home.

The next step is to fill all cracks and defects and get it ready for finishing.

Making good progress on the side table project. Tonight used a Festool domino joiner and did a dry assembly of the legs and rails. Such a great a machine but VERY expensive. For furniture making they are very handy that's for sure.

Next project officially underway...I've had this great looking blackwood slab for a while now and it's finally time to turn an idea into reality...

First step, clean it up with the belt sander to get a better idea of the features and grain pattern. I may need to flatten with a router or get it professionally planed if it's too uneven but we'll cross that bridge in due course.
