I just wanted to personally thank everyone who responded to our post last week.
I was honestly overwhelmed by the response. So many people messaged me privately, stopped me for a chat and came into the pharmacy asking how they could help or contribute.
It really meant a lot and showed just how caring our little community is.
Since then, I’ve been thinking about what we can actually do that will make a difference.
One issue that I feel is very important for many of our elderly people, particularly those living out of town, is transport.
When you can no longer drive because of your age, things most of us take for granted can suddenly become difficult. Getting to a doctor’s appointment, coming to the pharmacy, doing some shopping or simply getting into town can become a real challenge.
So I would like to start there.
The pharmacy will contribute $5,000 towards transport vouchers for elderly people in our community who need a little help getting around.
Quite a few people have also asked me if they can donate or contribute. I’m very grateful for that, and any donations are certainly welcome. Every little bit will help us support more people.
We are working out the best and simplest way to organise the vouchers and make sure they get to the people who genuinely need them.
This all started because of something very sad. But seeing how people have responded has also reminded me what a wonderful community we live in.
Thank you again to everyone who reached out, came in to see me, offered help or simply shared a few kind words.
This is only a small start, but hopefully together we can make a real difference in the lives of some of our elderly neighbours.
