A lot of work goes into framing a piece like this properly. It gave me plenty of time to appreciate the intricacy and hours that would have been poured into stitching this quilt from sari fabric 💗🫨🧵⏳

CYANOTYPE - what is it and what do you do with it 🧐

Working with this unique photographic process is a real joy 🤩

Did you know the process of the Cyanotype dates back to 1842?📆🕰️🎩

Originally, it was a way to develop or produce images without needing a camera. A surface is prepared with light sensitive chemicals, part of the surface is then covered before exposing the substrate to UV light. The exposed part will develop into a blue - cyan - colour. E voi la - you have created a silhouette.

Naturally, we don’t want any more UV light hitting a cyanotype! So we’ve preserved it by putting it under conservation art glass with a conservation grade mat board.

The glass will enhance the artwork by shielding it from environmental threats such as UV damage (very much needed with our Australian sunshine☀️ 🦘). The mat board will also help reduce acid migration which protects against yellowing 🌟😎
