“No Place Like Home” began as a series of instrumental pieces, which have expanded into larger scale works with elements of improvisation. This music explores and pays homage to what it means to feel at home within respective places and people. These artists come from Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, they come together on unceded Gadigal land.

The fourth edition of the Inner West Jazz Fest returns with a line up of remarkable new jazz and improvised music for audiences who want to be planted firmly at the edge of their seats. With artists coming from Melbourne, Adelaide, Stanmore, Newtown (and beyond!) expect the radical, beautiful and straight up amazing across three focussed nights at 21 Shepherd Street, Marrickville from August 27th – 29th.

From Mike Nock, presenting his legendary trio album “ONDAS” in full, to the launch of the new trio album from Jess Green and Dylan Van Der Schyff with Sandy Evans, Inner West Jazz Fest 2026 represents the living, breathing energy of creative music from our elders to a new generation burning bright.

Each year, the festival presents a snapshot of local creative mastery functioning at a world class level. For 2026 we are excited to bring you three nights of inspiration for our community of music lovers.

Opening IN FLUX is electronic artist Alexis Weaver, whose captivating solo set draws inspiration from her recent residency at Local Edition in Glebe. Transforming recordings of homewares and ceramic objects into immersive soundscapes, Alexis creates a lush, hypnotic world that drifts, sways, and subtly surprises.

IN FLUX then brings together two exceptional Australian artists in a unique long-form improvisation where no two performances are ever the same. Through a rich interplay of accordion, electronics, sampling, sound objects, and contemporary technologies, they weave an evolving sonic tapestry that unfolds in real time.

This is music as conversation, connection, and discovery—a space where performers and audience shape the experience together. A continuous exchange of energy and expression, IN FLUX invites you to surrender to the current and see where it takes you.

Saddle up for a Saturday afternoon honouring the long-lingering spirit of Marrickville — not a place so much as a feeling. A little rough around the edges, a little magic in the air, and always just one song away from a good story.

For over two decades, one band has kept Sydney’s saloons, juke joints, taverns and h***y tonks honest. That band is Spurs For Jesus — synonymous with alt-country and cowpunk, equal parts dust, swagger and good-time grit.

All in support of The Living Room Theatre — keeping that spirit alive where it counts.

HEAPS GRASS ARE HEAPS SICK…

But Good God Almighty we have the curators Daniel Raymond and Alex Tucker playing their duo.

Alex Tucker and Daniel Raymond are two improvising drummers that have created an original language as a drumset duo. Their experimental approach to the instrument has allowed them to create new areas of sound that explore the sonic, textural, and rhythmic possibilities of two drumsets playing together. Following on from their debut release as a duo, ‘Drum Sonata No. 1,’ Alex and Daniel are developing more material as a duo and in their own solo drumset practice pushing their technical ability and creating unique systems of patterning and rhythmic organisation.�
COME IN YOUR PJ’S … via these two gentlemen will take you into the wonderous places of your imagination.

In the radical 1970s, Sydney composer David Ahern imagined improvisation as:
“a new synthesis… an environmental metasound.”

Tonebird (Melanie Herbert, Romy Caen) and Vents (Peter Farrar, Dale Gorfinkel, Jim Denley) realise this vision—not through rejection, but through affirmation. An embrace of sonic and structural extremes.
From tones that resist fixed pitch, to dysfunctional instruments, air drums, hydrophones, ceramic tiles in water, and breath shaped into sound—this is music that escapes convention.

Frequencies untethered. Structures in flux. Sound up in the air.

Live at 21 Shepherd, two groups take Ahern’s idea seriously—forging new musical languages, environmental metasounds.
