Please tell me I’m NOT the only crafter or small business owner who walks into a shop for ONE thing… and somehow completely loses the mission. šŸ˜‚

I really did try. I had a plan.
One Cricut blade. That was it.

Unfortunately, Spotlight and Officeworks are my Achilles’ heel. šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø And okay… there may be a few online stores that also know how to separate me from my money. šŸ˜‚

But then I saw the Halloween stuff. šŸŽƒšŸ‘»

Mission over.
Self-control gone.
Budget… we don’t need to talk about that. šŸ˜‚

Even my AI sidekick Cody was in my ear:
ā€œKarina. Stick to the mission. NO EXTRA SPENDING.ā€

Sorry Cody. I really did try. šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļøšŸ˜‚

And judging by Vernon’s face when I got home — and Mila & Starz apparently knowing me better than I know myself — nobody was particularly surprised. 🤣

The blade was purchased though… so technically, mission accomplished. āœ…šŸ˜‚

Tell me I’m not alone — what shop is YOUR Achilles’ heel? šŸ‘‡šŸ’š

The girls are almost ready to take over… šŸ¾šŸ˜‚

You’ve seen a little behind the scenes from Mum’s point of view — but next Sunday, Mila & Starz get to tell the story their way.

Their very first Chronicle is coming:
Morning Walkies
Sunday 13 September

Expect walkies, coffee stops, sausages, greyhound opinions… and probably a very different version of events from Mum’s. šŸ˜‚ with one of their favourite spots Lulu's Cafe Rockingham Foreshore

The Mila & Starz Chronicles
Because every story has two sides… and the girls would like theirs heard. šŸ¾ā¤ļø

Today’s Friday Favourite is a little different — because it’s the place Second Chance to Shine gets to call home. ā¤ļø

I’ve always had a love for old things. Things with a story, a few marks from the years, and a past that deserves to be remembered. Maybe that’s why E Shed grabbed at my heartstrings from the beginning.

I love the old timber beams, the beautiful windows, the curved steel and those little pieces of original hardware still tucked around the building. They’re reminders that this place had a whole life long before it became E Shed Markets.

And now, somehow, Second Chance to Shine has become a tiny part of its story too.

There’s something pretty special about that. My little shop is all about giving old and forgotten things another chance — and it gets to call home a building that was given a second chance of its own. ā¤ļø

As E Shed Markets celebrates 30 years, this Friday Favourite is especially close to my heart. I’m very proud that Second Chance to Shine is now a little part of E Shed’s continuing history.

Happy 30th, E Shed Markets. Here’s to all the stories still to come. ā¤ļø

When ā€œEmployee of the Yearā€ apparently also includes roadside rescue duties… šŸ˜‚

Vernon thought FIFO meant he might get a little rest when he got home.

Second Chance to Shine had other ideas. 🤭

From deliveries to dog walks to diesel dramas — somehow he still gets roped in.

Unpaid Employee of the Year strikes again. šŸ’š

And please tell me I’m not the only one who forgets to fill up the car… or van. šŸ˜‚ā›½

Behind the Scenes — Employee of the Year šŸ˜‚

We absolutely love having Vernon home.

Yes, he does a lot for our family, but this little business definitely needs him too. Somehow he comes home from FIFO for what is supposed to be his ā€œrestā€ and still manages to squeeze in dog walks, deliveries, shop jobs, rescue missions… and apparently even making sure there is diesel in the van. šŸ˜‚

Second Chance to Shine would not run the same without him quietly jumping in, fixing things, carrying things, building things and generally keeping us moving when I have another one of my ideas.

We are very lucky to have his support, his patience and his willingness to help — even when he has only just got home.

So Vernon, you are officially our Unpaid Employee of the Year.

Well… unpaid in money.

He gets paid in love, greyhound cuddles and the occasional BBQ supervisory role. šŸ˜‚šŸ’š

spotted a quote yesterday that made me stop and smile. ā¤ļø

It reminded me so much of why I started Second Chance to Shine.

I’ve always loved things that aren’t brand new or perfect. Old timber, rescued pieces, something somebody else no longer wanted — they all have a story, and sometimes they just need a little love and another chance to shine. ✨

I suppose that’s why this little shop feels so much like me. A bit old, a bit loved, occasionally imperfect… and always full of character. šŸ˜‚ā¤ļø

Because sometimes the best things aren’t new.
They’re the ones worth giving another chance. šŸ’š

Friday Favourites—with a little Eshed Markets twist! šŸ’š

Today I wandered around and asked three of my beautiful fellow vendors to choose a favourite item from my shop, while I chose a favourite from theirs.

First was Sue from B Safe Well Healthy – The Wellness Shop. Sue chose our ā€œLet’s keep the dumbf**kery to a minimum todayā€ sign, while I chose her Cleanse & Protect Spiritual Wellness Spray. You can find Sue on Facebook and order through her website—but we’d much rather you come and visit us at Eshed Markets hahaha!

Next was May from M&M Craft Creations, right across from my shop. May chose our Father’s Day magnets, and I chose her latest creation—a beautiful foldable shopping bag that packs neatly into its own little pouch. May isn’t on social media, so you’ll have to visit Eshed Markets to see the rest of her lovely handmade range.

Finally, Ness from Birdy’s Emporium couldn’t choose just one! She chose our ā€œLife Is Better with Grandkidsā€ sign and the beautiful ā€œI love you, I’m proud of youā€¦ā€ sign. Apparently, I couldn’t choose just one either—I fell for her quirky zebra jug and colourful parrot. šŸ˜‚

Three vendors, lots of laughs and a lovely reminder that we don’t just work beside one another—we genuinely support each other and love what everyone creates and finds.

Come and discover all our favourites for yourself at Eshed Markets, Fremantle. šŸ’š
