I was in an exercise class this week, during which I was overcome with the deep desire for some thick, toasted bread, slathered with too much butter, and dripping in honey.

I’m still thinking about this combo now as I stare at the Couteau à Pain (aka bread knife) which unusually, we have in stock.

For the type of bread I crave - this is really the only implement that you need. The curved, toothed blade cuts through the crust for easier slicing - and honestly, I’m salivating.

In store and online - pair with a great loaf from any one of the multitudes of local Freo bakeries… 🍞 🔪 🤤

This book is SO GOOD. I wish I could gift each of you reading this post a copy (unfort you’ll have to buy your own - I’ve rent to pay/ not a Qantas exec, etc ).

This (shortened) quote from Bill McKibben on p177 earned a turned-down-corner;

“The most important thing an individual can do is be less of an individual. Join together with other people in movements large enough to affect changes in policy and economics that might actually move the system enough to matter.… What we need you to be is effective citizens moving policy… Movements are, history would indicate, the one way we have of standing up to unjust, entrenched power.”

The Carbon Almanac is just $38 and worth every cent. It’s so easy to dip in and out of, it’s a simple way to understand the whole environmental picture, and it’ll empower you to make informed decisions. Great for mums and dads.

And teachers! There’s a FREE Educators’ Guide online which accompanies the book - making it easier to impart the knowledge to younger ones.

I think it’s our duty?

I think this reusable bag design was my gateway drug into my ongoing addiction.

I hunted down the brand after spotting this bag, maybe when I was in the US back in 2016… since then, we’ve had this classic *HAVE A NICE DAY* in the shop, and it’s still one of my faves.

These bags fold up into a little pouch, they are super strong, fit about three bags of groceries and are perfect at the beach. They also come in very cool designs, AND are made with recycled nylon - so overall - five stars from me.

$22 a pop.

This puzzle looks deceptively simple but: how about that sky section? I like to imagine myself drinking tea, relaxed (not having heart palpitations about that sky)… enjoying the simple satisfaction of being off my phone/ completing a puzzle. A fantasy?!

We have four puzzle designs in the shop, each created by Western Australian artist .joanna - A FANTASY FOR YOU TOO? 🧩

Yesterday, Sam and I were lying on this pontoon and at one point, it was just us, and two young brothers. Probably around 4 and 5 years old. Their mum and a pal had jumped in and were treading water, waiting for the boys to join them - one of the women saying, “Last one in is a rotten egg!”.

The two boys jostled about, chickening out at every attempted leap. Racing back and forward, daring each other to jump.

Then I heard the little one quietly say, “I want to be the rotten egg”.

It was the most perfect thing I’d ever heard. And you bet I’ve whispered that line to myself about 5,000 times since then.

I took this 35mm photo of the South Beach pontoon back in 2018. The pontoon is now red in colour, but the joy it gives all who visit remains immeasurable.

I will ALWAYS endorse channelling your money into art. Not only is it excellent to support the people making art, but also, living with art in your home is totally enriching, as well as enlivening for your mind / soul.

This car was parked out the front of my old shop, pink paint secretly seeping out the boot like some creeping disease. I remembered the car today, and thought it would be the perfect bumper scene for this M**F [man, I love fineart] bumper sticker, but thanks to my poor-to-none photoshop skills, it was probably funnier in my head.

This is all to say we now officially sell Carla Adams bumper stickers. Yesss!

This is a nice little set for your perusal, great at home or as an ideal present. Made in Aus by - it’s kind of an all-you-need-for-your-indoor-plants kit (though you can buy each product individually too).

This is truly the most perfect Valentine’s Day card. Hand letter-pressed in Perth, each one is unique and for just $7 - you can really make someone’s day 💕 Actually three people’s day: me (the shopkeeper), (the maker, who also happens to be my Valentine), and the recipient (the flirtee).

When I was in high school, I received a real life, anonymous Valentine’s Day card in the post, and despite it featuring Garfield, it was so nice. Clearly, 400 years on, I still think about it. You too could give someone a nice memory, and wouldn’t that be wonderful?
