Introducing Desert Leather ( for those that don’t know)
Handcrafted • Bush-born • Sea-side made

Desert Leather officially opened in 2018, but the story began long before that — back in 1990, when David decided to teach himself leatherwork. At the ripe old age of 35 he picked up his first book, the RM Williams Leather Handbook, followed closely by Bruce Grant’s Encyclopaedia of Rawhide and Leather Braiding.

Like any true bushman, he learned the craft with grit, patience, and a whole lot of practice.

Today, after retiring from station life, David and his wife Merrilea live in the coastal town of Geraldton, where Desert Leather continues to grow. Merrilea has been part of the journey from day one — ordering hides, chasing tools, and giving her honest (and usually spot-on) opinions on every piece that leaves the bench.

Together they make a brilliant team, and every piece that leaves the bench carries their combined care, laughter, and lived experience.

Thank you for supporting a small Aussie business built from the bush, strengthened by partnership, and now made by the sea.
