Detectives are investigating the apparent theft of four enormous copper-rich tugboat propellers worth about $2 million in Western Australia's north.

The heist appears to be one of the most daring authorities have seen, as each propeller weighs about 2 tonnes and measures almost three metres across.

Mid West Ports is holding a Community Information Session to share information and answer questions about the proposed handling of ammonium nitrate through the Port of Geraldton.

Ammonium nitrate is a regulated product widely used in mining and agriculture across Western Australia. It is classified as a dangerous good and must be handled and transported in accordance with strict national safety regulations.

Community members are invited to drop in any time during the session to chat to our team about how we manage regulated cargo, the Special Berth License Framework and our safety and emergency management.
