“Expired” essential oils aren’t just less effective. 🌿

Someone asked this on yesterday’s post:

Are essential oils unsafe to use if they’re expired, or do they just lose their properties/efficiency?

This is an IMPORTANT distinction.

When an essential oil oxidizes, we’re not simply dealing with an oil that’s gotten weaker.

Its chemistry has changed.

And those changes can actually make an essential oil more likely to cause skin irritation or sensitization.

That’s why I don’t look at shelf life as:

“Eh, it might not work as well anymore.”

I look at it as a safety issue.

🌿 Freshness matters.
🌿 Storage matters.
🌿 How long you’ve had it matters.

And this is one reason I keep coming back to the same philosophy:

You don’t need a massive essential oil collection. You need a collection you actually understand, keep track of, and USE.

I’d much rather have 10 fresh oils I know well than 100 bottles slowly oxidizing in a cabinet. 😂”

That’s why we don’t need a huge collection of oils. Just the ones we need and love. ❤️

Once essential oils are opened it can start oxidising (so chemistry changes, especially in citrus 🍊 oils
This is why your Energise blend which is predominantly orange 🍊 and lemon 🍋 needs to be used not simply looked at.

The enemies of essential oils are
HEAT
LIGHT
AIR.

Keep your oils with lid on as soon as possible (so air doesn’t get in)

Keep in cool dark place.

Hint :- old expired oils can still be good for cleaning 🧹 🧼🧽🧻🧺

You will notice a change of smell 👃 (they won’t be as vibrant as start to go off). Or they can start to go cloudy ☁️ definitely going off.

Use old oils to make cleaning household products eg pop a few drops in back of toilet 🚽 water cistern. Smells lovely as you flush.
Put a few drops on the inside of a toilet roll (freshens bathroom).

Add a few drops 💦 + white vinegar & add to conditioner unit in your washing machine.

Add to a spray bottle + SOLUBULIZER & water 💧 (add 3 drops of SOLUBULIZER for every drop of essential oil).
Shake and spray. Makes a wonderful clothes spray.

Old oils that contain peppermint use to put a few drops around doorways or windows to keep ants 🐜 & spiders 🕷️ away.

Add a few drops 💦 into rinse water when you mop your floors.

Add a few drops 💦 to Cotton pad and attach to vacuum bag so fragrant air wafts wherever you go as you vacuum.

Add a few drops 💦 + bicarbonate of Soda. Spread over carpets. Leave as long as possible. Then vacuum.

Make a batch of bicarbonate of soda + few drops of essential oil and tiny amount of water to make a paste to clean 🧼 bathroom tiles. Use a vinegar & water spray to rinse. Wipe over with a cloth that you have added a few drops of essential oil. Beautiful bathroom.

Make a Linen Spray.
To your Aromamix Bottle
Pop 10 drops of Sweet Sleep 😴
Or Feel Good Blend

Add 30 to 50 drops of SOLUBULIZER (or 3/4 teaspoon
Mix.

Top up with cooled boiled or bottled water. Shake and spray.

Lovely for bed 🛏️ linen.
Curtains.
Clothes.

Enjoy ☺️

Christmas is only 19 Fridays away! 😳🎅
And if I’m honest, with the cost of living the way it is, Christmas can feel a little less “magical” and a lot more like “how on earth am I going to pay for all of this?” 😅
