An update from the Gladstone Regional Council regarding the temporary bus stop.

The Council has now finalized the detailed design for the works that are to be undertaken in Goondoon Street. It is anticipated that an invitation to tender for the proposed works will be released by December and the awarding of the contract in early 2020. The Gladstone Regional Council advised that it expects that works will commence by April 2020 and would conclude by April 2020.

The Council have advised that once the works to rectify the pavement failure in Goondoon Street and they are satisfied that the road surface is found to be structurally sound and also safe for heavy vehicles, the bus stop will then be reinstated to Goondoon Street.

15 SEP OCTEC GLADSTONE – BUILDING JOBSEEKER CONFIDENCE

This month Gladstone’s OCTEC office will celebrate 12 months of helping local job seekers, the celebration coincides with Disability Action Week. The week aims to empower people with a disability through raising awareness of disability issues and improving access and inclusion throughout the wider community.

OCTEC’s Disability Employment Service is a free service funded by the Federal Government. OCTEC specialises in assisting people and their communities to provide pathways to secure real jobs and create meaningful careers for people with an injury or health condition.

The key to success achieved by OCTEC has been tailoring training and support packages to suit individual needs and local circumstances. OCTEC’s strength lies in the organisations’ ability to tailor the support it provides depending on individual conditions and barriers that are preventing their clients from gaining employment.

Eligible jobseekers are partnered with experienced OCTEC consultants to develop career goals, produce a resume, match available jobs, discuss any training needs, organise and support the job seeker at interviews, arrange work trials and provide support after clients have started work. Whether the job seekers barrier to employment relates to a physical, mental or intellectual disability, OCTEC can tailor assistance to help.

Recently the Gladstone OCTEC team has further expanded to welcome, Maddie Robinson. Maddie brings with her two years of experience working in the industry and successfully changing people’s lives through employment.

Gladstone and Capricornia Regional Manager, Katie Connolly said OCTEC had recently expanded by opening their own permanent site in Biloela. “Now we can help our neighbours across the range,” she said. “Although we are not the only disability service provider to service Biloela, we are currently the only one to have our own site.”
