Our amazing poetry night is BACK at the bar TONIGHT (3/6) with readings from Peter Boyle and Hasib Hourani, and tickets are still available via Humanitix (https://events.humanitix.com/june-sappho-poetry-night-peter-boyle-and-hasib-hourani-w-open-mic). We can’t guarantee entry on the door so get in quick, and see you later!
Sign-up for the open section starts at 6:30 in the courtyard, with poetry kicking off at 7pm.

Winter warmers at the Sappho Cafe!
Escape the wind in our enclosed courtyard and try our new menu items, Dal Makhani, Mushroom Bruschetta, and the Burrata Crostini. The cafe is open everyday from 10am, kitchen closing at 3pm.

🖋️ TONIGHT our poetry night is BACK at the BAR! Tickets are still available (https://events.humanitix.com/may-sappho-poetry-night-sarah-holland-batt-and-naomi-cammayo-w-open-mic), we can’t guarantee entry on the door so snap up the last ones quick!
As well as our amazing open mic section, the event will also included readings from poets Sarah Holland-Batt and Naomi Cammayo!
Poetry nights are held on the first Wednesday of every month (except January) and have become renowned for their welcoming atmosphere and line-up of well-known poets. Supported by University of Technology Sydney Creative Writing, this event series is hosted by poets and UTS creative writing teachers, Dave Drayton, Sarah Attfield and Anne Casey. Poets at all stages – from absolute beginners to established – are invited (and warmly encouraged!) to sign up for the open mic roster at the venue from 6.30 pm on the night. There will be a limited number of two-minute reading slots available. The event kicks off at 7 pm. All welcome!
Sarah Holland-Batt
Sarah Holland-Batt is an award-winning poet, editor and critic, and Professor and Head of Creative Writing at UTS. Her books have received a number of literary awards, including the Stella Prize for her most recent book, The Jaguar, and the Prime Minister’s Literary Award for Poetry for her second volume, The Hazards. Most recently, her Selected Poems came out in the UK with Bloodaxe Books in 2024.
Naomi Cammayo
Dr Naomi R. Cammayo is a tutor at the University of Sydney, University of Technology Sydney and Western Sydney University (City Campus). Her academic endeavours intersect q***r feminism and/or decoloniality with literary and/or communication studies. Almost all of her of works remain hidden in her personal computer.

📣 LONG WEEKEND HOURS
The bookstore will be open from 10am every day over the long weekend for all your literary desires (closing 6pm Sat, as normal Sun + Mon)
The cafe & courtyard will be OPEN as normal on Sunday, but closed Saturday and Monday.
The bar will be closed on Saturday, but join us tomorrow night (24/4) for live music from 7pm from Charlie Donnellan!

🐰 We will be CLOSED over the Easter long weekend, but we will be open again on Tuesday the 7th of April, and the bar will open on Wednesday for our Open Stage!
