đLetâs talk about the âperfectâ cakes youâre seeing lately popping up everywhere.
The world of cake decorating is changing fast and we are suddenly seeing all these picture perfect cakes made by Artificial Intelligence (AI) showing up in your local marketplaces as well as on your Insta feed. AI is finding its way into our kitchens in ways we never imagined, and while itâs an incredible tool for brainstorming, itâs raising some tough questions about artistry and ethics.
I want to have an honest conversation about where I stand. (Swipe to see what I mean! âĄď¸)
The Good: AI is a brilliant âdigital sketchpad.â Tools like Nano Banana make it so easy to see how a colour palette looks on a 5 tier cake before you even touch a tool in your kitchen.
The Bad: Itâs now possible to take a photo from a talented decorator, use AI to change it, and claim it as your own. Thatâs not âeditingââitâs stealing. It replaces hours of hard work with a digital shortcut. Itâs ok if youâre doing it to get a better idea in your head to figure out what works and what not. Itâs definitely not ok to post it on your business page and present it at your work. In so many ways I find it even worse then just stealing someoneâs work.
The Truth about âInstagram Perfectâ: Weâve all brightened our photos to make them more appealing, but using AI to âfixâ your piping is a trap. If your photo shows butter smooth, air bubble free piping that you didnât actually do, youâre telling your customers your real skills werenât good enough.
My Own âCarlosâ Cake: Swipe to the end to see a cake I wasnât proud of, from when I first started. Iâm a fondant girl, and buttercream has never been my friend! But Iâd rather show you my real progress than a machine fixed lie.
We all start somewhere. Those âimperfectâ cakes are the stepping stones to becoming an expert. When we use AI to smooth over those struggles, we erase the progress that makes us artists.
Authentic skill and the human touch canât be automated. â¨
