Countrygrown

Countrygrown Countrygrown is a small personal business that crafts items with a focus on repurposing and reusing as many craft supplies as possible. Orders available.

I’m an avid op shop forrager, knitter, sewist, crocheter, farmer, teacher, chatterer and cook. Hello my name is Jayne. I am a teacher, farmer, maker, crafter, thinker, sewer, knitter, crocheter, tinker, traveller, explorer, eater and cook(er?). Welcome to my page, Countrygrown, where I am looking forward to showcasing and selling the many items I handcraft. I've sewn, knitted , crocheted and crafted since a child, growing up on our farm in Central West NSW, finding relaxation, purpose and joy in using my hands and brain to create. Countrygrown has been my label for about 20 years, starting when I lived in Coonamble, Nyngan and Dubbo, working as a preschool Director, participating in markets and home showings around glorious western NSW. I moved to Adelaide, a lovely city that is really a big country town with David Jones and roads heading to the country from all compass points, for a short time and find myself living here some 16 years later. The name Countrygrown reflects my life as I really live between two states as I spend blocks of time on our farm then return to South Australia. You can take the girl out of the country but not the country out of the girl it seems. Countrygrown pays homage to my background. As much as possible when making, I use repurposed fabric, sewing notions, yarn, sheets, tea towels, toys and other bits sourced from charity shops to reduce waste as much as possible and contribute to charity funds. This isn't always possible but I do my best to reduce, reuse and recycle. My work falls into two linked categories which reflect my life, loves, abilities and experiences. Countrygrown Home will showcase the many and various items I craft to decorate my own home and garden and gift to others. Environments are important and I love how my home reflects me and enjoy how my creations add to enriching the surroundings of others. Countrygrown Sensory reflects my role as a teacher, most recently working to understand children with additional needs. As I've studied and worked with children of differing abilities, I've learnt much about how the creation of an environment with sensory expereinces enriches the lives of many people --young and old, who need particular textures, shapes, sizes, and smells to soothe and settle into calm spaces to access learning or seek comfort and calm. I have for many years created a wide range of sensory sheets, bags, laps pads, feely tubes, textured cushions and more, for students I have taught, people with dementia I have met and as requests from teachers, parents, carers and medical professionals. Enrionments matter and help us all to be the best we can be. I am happy to chat to you regarding bespoke items such as rugs in particular colour ways or sensory items in a chosen texture.requiring particular colours and textures.

As part of my countrygrown sensory range, I am pleased to say that I've created some more sensory items. As a teacher I know the difference to a child's learning the right sensory tools can make. The sensory tools can be used as part of a regular sensory diet or regular specific personal use, for adults and children who need some type of resource to help them focus, concentrate, calm or even become involved in the activity.

Sometimes people of all ages need something sensory to fiddle with to help them to be calm or able to concentrate or to be stimulated.

With this in mind I’ve made a number of sensory sit spots and popped them into the shop. These sit spots are child size but I can do something similar if you are needing a bigger size or something in a particular colour or special sensory stims.

Each sensory sit spot has two different fabrics on each size as well as a number of sensory strips that are very fairly attached.

I incorporate as many different fabrics and attachments as possible, to provide a range of sensory experiences. These sensory strips may include rough, smooth and fluffy textures, sequins, spots, stripes, plain colours, bead threads, marble pockets, twisting rings and beads, pockets with plastic fro as crunchy sound and more. Not all sensory sit spots will have all of these choices.

Working as a teacher for many years has taught me about the importance of sensory play for children, tweens, teens and adults. Sensory play helps us all to learn how our bodies work and how to process and interpret the world around us. Sensory opportunities are essential for people with a need for particular types of stimulation. My toys have a range of materials witih different feels, textures, looks and sounds that can help with processing situations, acting as calming and/or stimulating tool.

I'm happy to talk with you about making a personalised sensory tool.
Heres are some sensory mats and toys that Ive just listed in my shop.
Please pm me if youd like to purchase something.

I've been mainly posting items for the Countrygrown Home range up until now. I'd like to introduce you to the other branch of my business which involves creating a range of items for people with sensory needs to use. Sensory items help children, teens and adults to feel a sense of calmness leading to being able to settle to the social or educational tasks they are engaed in.
I can create many items and am happy to take orders so we can make the best tool for your person to need.

Hello Everybody,

How nice to be back online after an extended period of time in NSW.

I'm busily creating some new items for you to view. Getting a little tricky though as many of my products are tough on sewing needles. I've broken a few yesterday amnd only have two left. Normally not a problem of course but Im on home isolation until the end of Thursday in Adelaide and can't pop out to but more so I'll have to sew very carefully.

Welcome to my new followers. How lovely to have you join our community. Please fell free to pop on and say hi as well as telling me about what types of items you are interested in and how you found my page.

It's getting chilly here. How are you keeping warm? I find snuggling on the lounge wrapped in a woollen crochet rug works for me.

This pure wool rug has been croched by me into granny squares. The squares use bright pink, dark pink, dark purple, light purple, and mauve, all bordered using cream. The blanket comes together with a 3 cm border of tightly crocheted cream.

The rug is approx 86cm squared, making it perfect for use in a cot or as a knee rug.

$180 plus $12 postage and handling
