Sometimes, painting is a struggle...
It might be hands that never look quite right, feet that look odd, colours that won’t blend the way I want...
Some of my paintings take three months from start to finish. And others take even longer. I’m a self-taught artist, which means I’m often learning while I’m creating.
There’s experimenting, repainting, stepping away, coming back and looking through a mirror, to adjust my brain, to see it as new again!
Right now, I have four unfinished paintings that I’m working on...and struggling with.
I wanted to share this because social media often shows the finished artwork, but not the frustration, doubt, mistakes and persistence behind it.
The creative process isn’t always smooth or inspiring.
So, to every artist staring at an unfinished painting, you are not alone!
Taking longer doesn’t mean you’ve failed. Struggling doesn’t mean you lack talent. Sometimes, the hardest paintings are the ones that teach us the most.
