[ THE PLACES WE CAN'T REPLACE
One day we look around and realise the little shops are gone.
The bookshop where someone knew your name. The homewares store filled with treasures you didn't know you were looking for. The places where conversations happened, where recommendations were shared, where communities quietly gathered.
Independent retail is disappearing, not because people don't love these places, but because convenience has become the default.
We understand it. Life is busy. A parcel arriving at the front door is easy.
But everytime a small shop closes, a little bit of character leaves with it. Our streets become more uniform. Our towns lose some of their stories. The chance encounters, the human connection, the joy of discovering something unexpected begin to fade.
Small businesses are rarely built for profit alone. They are built on passion, courage and a belief that beautiful, meaningful things still matter.
And for those of us lucky enough to welcome people through our doors, please know that we never take it for granted. Every visit, every kind word, every purchase no matter how big or small means more than you might imagine. It helps keep the lights on, the doors open and the dream alive.
If we want interesting towns, vibrant communities and unique places to explore, we need to support the people creating them.
Not every purchase has to be local.
But some should be.
Because once these places are gone, we can't simply add them back to cart.
