New from Maria Semple ( Where'd You Go Bernadette, an exuberant & ingenious book and an excellent film) gives us Adora Hazzard.
Adora Hazzard has it all figured out.
"A contented divorcee, she relishes her teenage daughter, her job as a moral tutor for an old-money New York family & the bliss of finally being solo.
Alone but far from lonely, she's also quietly assembling a coven of like-minded single women on the sixth floor of the legendary Ansonia building on New York's Upper West Side.
Together they share groceries, dog walkers and one dirty little secret: despite their age, they're only just getting started.
Adora's life philosophy is simple, want only what you already have, but a chance encounter with a charming stranger may well threaten her joyfully curated life"
If this sounds like your jam ( it's certainly mine!) Grab a copy, we're open 7 days 10. - 4..

Another very interesting non fiction new release, Strangers by Bella Burden, a story of privilege, social class & the financial risks women face in marriage.
Strangers is a brutally resonant, clear eyed memoir detailing the sudden, devastating end of Burdens 20yr marriage during lockdown 2020, where in a matter of 24 hours her seemingly perfect marriage disintegrates with her husband abruptly announcing an affair & leaving.
His subsequent complete disconnect leaves her & their children in a state of total disarray.
Strangers has been described as both a cautionary tale & a compelling narrative of personal empowerment.
This is a compulsively readable memoir heralding the arrival of a new literary talent.

Murder in Paris '68 is a stylish, intelligent page turner, an atmospheric highly original story from Edward Chisholm ( A Waiter in Paris) woven around the 1968 murder of Stevan Markovic, who's violent death sparked a scandal involving Alain Delon ( the victim being his stand in/ body guard/friend) & blurring the lines between art, organised crime & politics.
The subsequent investigation became a cultural phenomenon, suggesting the possibility of art imitating life or life imitating art, given Delon's cinematic persona & his known real life associations.
This is a fascinating book, well written & well researched.

A packed auditorium on Saturday evening to listen to Dr. Randa Abdel-Fattah in conversation with Allisar Gazal.
Dr. Abdel-Fattah spoke with clarity & passion about her novel Discipline, the media & political attacks she has navigated as they attempt to marginalise, alienate & suppress her work & the broader attempts to gaslight the public as to the truth regarding the ongoing genocide in Palestine.
We proudly support Dr. Abdel-Fattah & The Shoalhaven Friends of Palestine.
Dr. Abdel-Fattah will be a guest speaker at the Sydney Writers Festival in May & her books are available in all leading bookstores including
