THE JURIEN FISH SHOP IS CALLING IT A DAY
After approx. 15 + years of being the Fish Shop Chick I have decided to call it a day on my little business – finishing at the end of June.
Due to recent circumstances with another round of cuts coming for our fishing industry and Lance taking time out from fishing, sourcing a good and constant supply of fish is becoming increasingly difficult and has helped force my hand to draw an end date.
I would like to sincerely thank all of my customers who have kept me afloat over the years. Some of you have been with me since I started off and have seen my kids grow up and know what battles we have been through as a Commercial Fishing Family.
The shop has been a huge part of my life for yonks so I will be at a loss I know that for sure. I will dearly miss my little Shop and what it brings to the town of Jurien Bay.
A thank you to Nonna (the purple haired old lady) who has always helped at the shop. Another loving thank you to the girls that have worked with me over the years – especially to you Brooke who did more than just the Fish Shop work and to Natasha at Haven and my BF Mandy who both helped keep me going.
Of course, a big thank you to Lance, who cray-fished, fished, filleted, helped with the processing and cooking, dodged knives, REPEAT. He wanted to stop a long time ago as he saw what was looming for our Industry, but I just figured it was because he was old and grumpy. However, at the state the industry is in at present he wont be coming back so there is no show without Punch.
The biggest thank you goes to our kids – they have seen the whole beginning to end. Nights spent in the car to sleep at the process room so we could process during the night so Lance could fish during the day, hours in a Fish Shop growing up, working in the processing facility and the Shop, helping on the boat and the list goes on. I cannot for the life of me see why you would not want to be Fish Mongers.
The Fish Shop began as Lance and I wanted to see Jurien Bay have a Seafood outlet as an added attraction to the town and as we were catching our own fish and crayfish, we knew we could supply quality seafood. From there it grew to prawns, oysters, mussels, scallops and much more along the way, including a 7 day a week business. It has been a long haul, a mammoth mission, a lot of work, treasured memories, some crap times, some awesome times, but now its time to call it TIME.
I will be keeping up with the Fresh Fish as much as possible to the end, but other stock may run out which I will not be reordering. So, if you have freezer space now is time to come stock up.
