"Everyone says bar soap ruins your face. But my face is the driest part of me."

That was a customer email last week, and it's the question we get more than any other. So we've written the honest answer rather than the marketing one.

The short version: the warning about bar soap isn't wrong, it's just incomplete. Real soap is alkaline, and skin in its fifties and sixties is slower to recover from that than younger skin is. But the damage isn't from one wash. It's from washing twice a day with something that strips the surface clean and leaves nothing behind to replace what it took. That tight, papery feeling twenty minutes after you towel off is the tell.

What changes things is superfat — the fat deliberately left in the bar that the lye never converted. It won't make soap pH-friendly, and we're not going to pretend it does. What it does is make sure your face isn't bare when you walk out of the bathroom.
