This is up for grabs tomorrow - it's a jigsaw puzzle for people who have lots of patience which is all of you right? This is definitely has all the pieces as I completed it during the last week.
One word for the cover art is intricate! It's amazing when you stop and smell the roses when doing this puzzle how much detail there is in it.
Remember to vote 1 - Kiama Record Fair at the Masonic Lodge 10am to 4pm tomorrow and unlike the real thing we do allow you, and encourage you, to vote more than once.

Here's another record we have for sale at the Kiama Record Fair on December 4. If that date sounds familar it is also local council elections and we at Velvet Forest HQ would encourage you to have a good look at what is on offer and what they stand for. For example, we would like to see more action on affordable housing and improve Kiama's rating of F from the Housing Trust.
Surely we can do better than this candidate?
I quote - Anyway, do you want that kind of housing next to your house? 99% of the people who live here would agree with me. End quote!!!!
I would also encourage you to come to the Masonic Centre after voting and detox/do something nice for yourself. In other words, buy a truckload of vinyl.
I haven't listened to this record but here's a nice write up about it......
Home is a satisfyingly comfortable record, and by documenting Butler’s ups and downs through song, it feels like not only does the listener know him a little better, but that the singer feels more confident in himself as well, almost as if he just had to write these songs as a coping mechanism to break away from the mundane. As the man himself said, “There was no choice. Like that classic children’s book, We’re Going On A Bear Hunt says: ‘Can’t go under it, can’t go over it, can’t go around it. Must go through it.”

Another great record we have for you at Kiama Record Fair. Check them out on the podcast Song Exploder.

Turntables Part 3 - so you have your turntable and are ready to spin a record but hold on! There are some things to think about before you drop the needle:
Is the stylus ok? If you have a magnifying glass the stylus should look like the bottom of an ice cream cone. If not you may need a new stylus which means more waiting!
Is the turntable level and isolated from other equipment?
Is the tracking force within the acceptable range? Tracking force is the amount of pressure the needle puts on the record and most tracking forces are between 1.5 and 2 grams.
Is the antiskating ok? If the antiskating is set well the needle will sit in the middle of the groove and not favour one side.
Does your amp have a phono stage? Most newer amps don't have a phono stage and you will need to buy one. Before you do have a look on your amp for an input labelled phono.
Actually if you have bought a new turntable with a cartridge on it there is a good chance you plug it into your amp and some wonderful sounds will come out of your speakers.
Otherwise, if the above is sounding a little too much, I would hunt down your local hi fi store and they should be able to do all those checks for you.

Sometimes we come across a record that we know nothing about and this is definitely one of them! How does this sound?
Captain G***a and the Space Patrol is one of the most singular dub albums that barely saw the light of day. A conscious effort to create a new breed of dub centred around the cosmic synths and keys of Paul Thompson. Making use of an early Roland sampler, Tradition broke away from the standard drum / bass workouts that ruled the day. With the Captain, dub becomes an atmosphere, a feeling, not a formula - littered with baby’s cries, tribal chants, radiophonic noodlings and library soundtracks for space-age bachelor pads.
We have a test pressing which is rare so if you are interested let us know!

Good afternoon on this wet drizzly day. We at the forest can't help the slight feeling of seller's remorse.
Have you ever sold anything and later thought why did I do that? or ummm and ahhhed about a record you saw, didn't buy and later thought I should buy it go back and it is gone?
The one we specialise in here at the forest is hanging out for an original copy and being restless going out and buying a repress only to come across an original soon after. (Picture added for dramatic effect)

Happy World Toilet Day everyone! As I write the weather is not looking that good for the Kiama Seaside Market on Sunday and not for the partial eclipse tonight.
The natives are getting restless in the forest and lookngforward to getting out there and meeting you all.
Just putting it out there, if anyone has some records they no longer want please let us now. We would love to have a look at what you have!

Turntables part 2 - continuing from yesterday, what is a good turntable and how much should you spend?. There are a lot of new or second-hand options but I would recommend second-hand as good bang for your buck and some of the brands to watch out for are Rega, Project and Thorens.
This 350kg beauty below can be yours for a smidge under $225,000! No typos in that last sentence!
My personal listening is done on a Rega Planar 3 which is around 40 years old and still going strong. Rega are no frills so the money goes into quality components.

It can be daunting entering the realm of records and record collecting and what to play them on. The number of record players out there is bewildering.
On the surface of it the functions of a record player are simple - spin at a constant speed of 33 1/3 or 45 rpms and make sure the needle is isolated from all vibrations so it traces the groove accurately.
Cheap players just aren't going to do this and a tell tale sign is if the platter is smaller than an LP or if there are built in speakers.
There is a lot more to it than that - it feels like I have opened a can of worms and they are keen to escape!
If you have any questions or comments about record players or you have suggested topics for posts let us know!
