Signatur Handknits are the designs of Sydney based Jane Slicer-Smith, Author of Swing Swagger Drape.

Handknitting in Australian Wool, designs are available as knitting kits, patterns and finished garments. Jane Slicer-Smith designs the most stunning and unique Hand Knits as bespoke garments, kits to knit yourself, or as patterns. Signatur Handknits are made from Australian Pure New Wool and the finest fancy yarns. Jane is also the author of Swing Swagger Drape: Knit the Colors of Australia. There are hundreds of Signatur designs, ranging in Style from Swingcoats and A-Line coats, to jackets, Skirts, Cardigans, kimono's capes, scarves, gloves, hats, berets and wraps. I created this design for Vogue Knitting Internation. I think it was one of the first side ways knits I created - I put a stepped edge on the hemline. Whejn knitting sideways the fronts need to be shorter than the back - as when worn open the fronts will always hang longer. The two tone trim is corrugated garter, 2 rows st-st and 2 rows Reverse st-st simple stripe.

A colourful week - let's look at Blues. Byron Aline Coat, Windsor Jacket, Waratah Cardigan, Two Tone Drape - knitted sideways, Tibet Aline, Stitched Up jacket back and front, Shona Jacket and Niroo Jacket.
All design sold as knitting kits and patterns. Knitting kits have Australian wool, the patterns and handmade buttons if required.

Mitre Knitting: The Harlequin Swagger, is from the front cover of my book Swing, Swagger, Drape, this is a customer in New York showing her finished garment. Mitres create a Chevron pattern and you can see the upward V from about the waist up - this is knitted first, reducing the number of stitches per Mitre waist to shoulder and then picking up and knitting from the waist down to create the skirt of the coat.
Mitres can create aryle inspired patterns - this Mitred Poncho I designed for Knitters magazine.

Another Mitre piece, the Mitres are worked on the diagonal and the skirt of knitted I guess you could sat almost in a spiral. It is knitted in 2 directions - from the knee up to the waist - reducing the number of stitches per Mitre and the needle size, then picked up from the knee length and knitted to the hem, adding stitches and increasing the needle size. This later translated into the Harlequin Swagger which is on the cover of my book Swing, Swagger, Drape 2009 - a classic!

Jane also offers her designs as knitting kit, which include the knitting pattern, yarns and handemade buttons. The true treat for knitters meeting Jane at a show is being able to try on garments - checking design, colour and size - Jane is even happy to customise patterns for the perefect fit.
