We’re off to meet our niece for the first time 🌿

Born last week. Chris’s sister’s first, so this one’s a bit special.

Naturally, a quick stop at ours on the way.

We walked out with the Little Dutch deer activity plush and a Winnie Parkes teether, wrapped and ready to go.

We’ve been calling it Science Week. The kids have been calling it Thursday 🔬

That’s the trick with all of this. Nobody in here thinks they’re learning anything. They’re building a marble run that keeps dying at the same corner, and working out why, which is the entire scientific method in a pair of small hands.

You’ve been asking, so here it is.

Here’s the go: in store only, this Thursday 20 August from 4pm. About 50 units, and this time it’s one per person so more of you get one.

While stocks last. First in, best dressed. No holds, no laybys, no online orders.

Local Love Wednesday, and the timing is deliberate 📚

Book Week starts Saturday, so this week we’re sending you up the road to Boardwalk Books.

There’s something a bookshop does that an algorithm can’t. You walk in with nothing in mind, someone asks what your kid is into, and you walk out with the right book. That’s the whole job, and they’re good at it.

If you’re chasing something for Book Week, or a costume idea that started with a book, start there. Then come see us for the craft bits and odds and ends.

Bringing kids into a toy shop is a breeze, and ours are living proof ✨

They play quietly. They touch nothing they shouldn’t. They leave the second we ask, every single time, without a word of complaint about the one thing they wanted and didn’t get.

No meltdowns. No tears. No negotiating in the doorway.

Just like in this video.

Jokes aside: we have a meltdown almost every single visit, and we plan when to bring them in like it’s a military operation. If you’re wrestling a small person past the fidget wall right now, we see you. You’re doing fine.

The party started ten minutes ago and we’re still ten minutes away 🎁

If you’ve ever found yourself in this exact situation, welcome. We’re right here with you.

Four year old’s birthday. No present. No plan. Just me, the kids, and a very short window.

Eight minutes. Start to finish. Walked out with something wrapped, which happened out the back while Chris served a customer.

The best bit? Watch the deliberation. There were about eight solid Snackle options, and Addie was absolutely certain the birthday girl needed the Olaf. She got the Olaf! Vindication for Addie, relief for me.

We’re stocking Djeco now, and the packaging alone is worth the trip 🎨

Djeco is a French brand that has been making craft kits since the 1950s. The illustration is what sets them apart. These are the kits kids keep the box from.
