The most frequently asked questions in the shop are definitely 'what is that purple plant?' and 'where can I get one?' So I thought I'd let locals know that Mitre 10 at Kingston has quite a few at the moment. It's called oxalis triangularis or purple shamrock.
Growing tips: mine is happy with indirect sun and likes to be kept moist. I pull out the flowers just because I think it looks better without them. They can be divided but can take a while to recover. It's native to South America. I had one in a pot outside but it definitely didn't like the Tasmanian winter - so I don't think there's much chance it's going to become a w**d!

The shop is open again! I wish I could say that I spent my break relaxing and exploring somewhere warmer than here, but it was really a chance to catch up with some jobs around the house and shop. Of course I didn't manage to finish half the things on my to do list! We did spend a lovely couple of days up on the North West Coast which is a beautiful part of Tasmania.

Thanks to everyone who came to the paper sale before my break. I've put some remaining scrap packs and mizuhiki bundles in the sale section of the online shop.

To make more space for textiles I've decided not to continue selling paper - other than antique books and paper. So I'm having a paper clearance sale tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday (while the Kingston Beach Handmade Market is on next door). Lots of craft paper scrap bags, mizuhiki and other paper and stationery odds and ends. This is instore only but I'll put any stock that I don't sell on to the Sale section of my online shop. Fri 12th - Sat 13th 10am - 4.30pm and Sun 14th June 10am - 3pm.

After the sale I'll be taking my winter break for 3 weeks - re-opening Wed 8th July)

People are often surprised to learn that it is only in the last 25 or so years that heavily patched and mended cotton textiles from Japan have been labelled as ‘boro’. We’ll be looking close up at antique pieces from my collection both for inspiration for your own work as well as a starting point for a discussion about the history of boro – including the cultural reframing of this mending tradition in recent years. Please note that we won’t be doing any stitching but you’ll be welcome to take lots of photos.

My Autumn Sale is on now! Some of the rolls of silk on the back wall have been there over a decade - so I've got over half of them on sale for $35 for the remainder of the roll - or 4 for $90 I’ve also got $10 kimonos - they’re not the best I’ve ever had in the shop, but definitely the cheapest! The remnant baskets are also discounted. And there are rolls of mixed chiyogami paper at half price. I’m phasing out paper in favour of more textile space. The sale is on this week only, including Sunday when I’ll be open from 10am - 3pm while the market’s on next door. Hope you can drop in!
