1958 Gretsch round badge 20,12,16 + 14snr restored for Jason last month. Despite the severe damage to the BD wrap, toms and snare were remarkably well preserved with minimal fading. This meant i was able to rewrap the BD in new gold sparkle, and achieve a reasonable match to the other three drums. Work as follows:

- BD stripped/rewrapped in period correct gold sparkle
- lifting seams cleaned and reset on 12,16 + snare
- all drums and components cleaned, polished, and serviced
- all bearing edges recut to original profiles. 3/8" and 1/4" round over for toms, 30 deg chamfer for BD and snare
- strainer replaced with reproduction microsensitive and extra holes plugged and capped
- extra hole behind 12" tom mount plugged and capped
- missing muffler replaced with reproduction from Gretsch
- BD hoops stripped/, refinished in authentic gloss black and new inlay strips added
- classic fit heads fitted to accommodate oversized shells

Early 60s COB Super Ludwig restored for Dillon - original p83 strainer reinstalled and a few chewed out slotted screws on butt replaced with old stock originals

Huge Rogers refurbishment completed this month. This kit held special significance for Darren, having owned it since his teenage years after it was handed down to him by his father. Over the decades, a lot of weird but well intentioned stuff happened - extra holes, after market mounts, a rewrap in cheap contact wrap, and some unavoidable deterioration as well. Work as follows:

1 - finished 8,10,12,13,16,18,22 in white pearl
2 - kit arrived wrapped in red contact, and missing an 18 FT. Fortunately, one came our way during the project, completing Darren's dream set up
3 - wrap stripped, then glue stripped. Clean shells ready for new finish
4 - ply separation repaired and extra holes plugged
5 - 12/13 had been converted from concert toms to double headed set up some years ago. Unfortunately, the lug layout left a bit to be desired 😆. Crooked holes plugged and flush sanded
6 - Wrap on, badges on
7 - drill tear out from previous concert tom conversion filled and spot refinished in matching granitone. Bearings edges cut, and inner chamfer painted to match
8 - 18" FT sourced, stripped, and wrapped to join the kit. Interior had been sprayed silver at some point, so it was refinished in period correct flat grey + granitone to match the kit
9-14 - reassembled with new issue Rogers hardware, including 2 way tom mount system which allows for L-arm set up, or disappearing style assembly.

18" bodhran reheaded in medium gauge Kangaroo Hide for Nicole this week. Crown set high to allow for a wide tuning range, and tensioning system upgraded for easier adjustment

Neat little plugging job on an extra hole behind Jason's 1958 round badge tom mount this week - hole filed with a plug cut from donor shell material, then capped with old stock gold sparkle, which matched the slightly faded original finish pretty nicely.

Final shots of our mega 17 pc rewrap for Sydney - all shells stripped of their faded and inconsistent bowling ball oyster wrap, then refinished in 60s style oyster black pearl. This will provide this backline mainstay with a perfectly matching shell bank that can be broken into any number of configurations. A couple of additional snares wrapped in pre-aged white marine pearl and black glass glitter for a bit of contrast.

Rebecca Lagos, principal percussionist with , performing Nigel Westlake's 'When the Clock Strikes Me' - 10",12",14",16" medium gauge Kentville Kangaroo Hide Heads

As a music student twenty years ago, I watched Rebecca perform Westlake's first iteration of this seminal percussion feature. It remains one of the most mesmerising displays of musicality, virtuosity, and dexterity I've seen. Perhaps matched only by the anniversary performance last weekend of When the Clock Strikes Me part 2, where Rebecca returned to a veritable drum shop of equipment at the front of stage, and demonstrated once again that there's no need to choose between drums, marimba and bells; you can simply play them all at the same time.

Kentville Heads featured heavily throughout the performance. Notably, through a powerful and turbulent solo section of the piece where our hero was left exposed and in full command of her domain, with the rest of the Orchestra watching on and regretting their instrument choices.

It's been a great privilege to have my drumheads in constant use with the SSO over the last decade, being heard weekly in the iconic Sydney Opera House across an array of instruments. Thanks to the percussion section for years of support, and congratulations Rebecca on your incredible performance! 🎊🥁
