We held our AGM yesterday at the showgrounds meeting room. Majella and Betty stepped down after keeping the ship afloat over the past 12 months, and Rosemary was elected President, with Sue as VP. Cynthia stayed on as Secretary, Kym came on board as Asst Sec, and Brian filled the Treasurer's position left vacant since Margaret's resignation in October. We are proud to advise that we donated $47,500 over the last Financial Year. ☺️

Huge thank-you's to volunteers John Close and John Moy, who built our spiffy new bookcases for the library room. We were able to get rid of the assorted tubs of miscellaneous magazines and LP records and the extra space created is brilliant. You may have noticed that we repurposed two of the old bookcases which now sit where the double doors were (under the old roller door) and hold CDs and backpacks, which now leaves the original DVD shelving dedicated just for DVDs. All this is thanks to Johnx2 as well.

Our AGM is coming up on the 13th of November, 3pm at the showgrounds meeting room. All registered volunteers are welcome to attend, but only current working volunteers are eligible to vote. Thank you to the PA&H for making their room available, and to Allan Bullen who will chair the meeting.

Time has taken its toll on our wonderful committee Treasurer, Margaret, who has been looking after our finances since March 2014. Marg has resigned from that position and although we are sorry to see her go we totally understand her reasons. After a bit of a holiday Marg will be back manning the counter on Fridays as usual. Thank you for all you have done helping keep us afloat Marg!

Wednesdays won't be the same now, as Deb Taylor finished up today. Deb did a couple of shifts a week for a few years, then cut back to just Wednesdays and an occasional fill-in, and was a committee member for a couple of years - about 10 years service in all. Thank you Deb, it has been a pleasure working with you and we're sorry to see you go.
Our faithful concierge Dodge also finished up today. He has been putting in an appearance on Mondays and Wednesdays since he was a teenager, but now as an old and arthritic fella it's time for him to cut back. Thank you to everyone who has made his days at the Op Shop such a joy with hugs & pats & snacks. ❤️

At our last meeting it was resolved that the strip of carpet that ran up the middle of the shop would have to go; it was old and had become a tripping hazard and looked shabby with all the tape we'd been sticking the edges down with. Last Saturday volunteers Karen and Wayne got stuck into the job ( for which we are most grateful) and the old carpet has been consigned to the skip. However, not everyone is happy about this! Dodge bowled in the front door and skidded to a stop on the bare floor. He was scrambling trying to turn around when all four legs went in different directions and he ended up SPLAT on his face. And he just laid there trying to figure out what had just happened. Eventually he managed to get back on all fours and scrambled back to the safety of the bare floor just inside the door, because, you know, that bare floor is different from the recently exposed bare floor. We came to work on Monday and he just sat and glared from the safety of the concrete floor in the back room, but eventually plucked up the courage to tiptoe to his usual spot, but only because we put a mat down for him to sit on. Evidently dogs don't like change!

A couple of weeks ago the end fencepost on our Oldbury St fence was hit and broke off underground. At our meeting on Thursday afternoon it was resolved that we would have to get it replaced, and Raylene said she would get her husband to have a look at it. Not only did he have a look at it, but by the time the shop opened on Friday morning the job was done!! A huge thank you to John Moy for digging out the wrecked post and concreting a new one into place, we so appreciate your help. 💖

Hop hop hop it's almost Easter. The shop will be closed on Good Friday, and Easter Sunday of course. We'll be open on Saturday from 10 - 1 and open Easter Monday hopefully to get some customers in town for the annual rodeo! Stay off the highway if you can.....

Sadly, we acknowledge the passing of our of our volunteers from the past, Dorothy "Dossie" Jones, who left us last weekend aged 94. From memory, Doss worked the Saturday shift until she retired less than 10 years ago. Doss has not been well over the past couple of years and had suffered some serious falls recently. Dossie will be farewelled at a service at the Lang Lang Hall next Monday 3rd Feb, commencing at 1pm. Vale Doss.
