Lime Milkshake

Lime Milkshake Kiln fused and torch worked glass jewellery created in Tasmania, Australia. Plus, I really like Lime Milkshakes. Lime Milkshake started as a hobby.

Glass is comprised of a mixture of Sand, Lime and Soda, hence the name Lime Milkshake. I became chronically ill and developed a neurological disorder, forcing me to retire as a Remedial Massage Therapist. To help with my mental and physical therapy I needed something that engaged my frontal cortex. Something that improved my hand eye co-ordination as well as cognitive skills. I stumbled upon glass making and it was love at first site. Glass and jewellery making gives me the freedom of creative expression as well as being able to create when my body is feeling well enough and resting when I need it. I create the beads by melting long glass rods in a flame and wrapping the molten glass around a steel mandrel. While the beads are still semi molten, I can add a diverse range of colours to create patterns as well as shape them with a variety of tools. The beads are then placed in a heated container filled with vermiculite to cool slowly. If the hot glass is cooled too fast, it gets thermal shock and the beads crack. Once I have enough beads, I remove them from the mandrels, clean them and then place them in a kiln to anneal. This is a technique similar to tempering chocolate-the kiln is held at a certain temperature for a particular amount of time to help harden the beads, so they become less fragile. This whole process is called Lampworking. I also use another technique called Freeze and Fuse. This is where I put powdered glass in moulds with a few drops of water and then place the moulds in the freezer for a few hours. Once they are frozen, I pop them out and fuse them in the kiln. This melts the powdered glass enough as to become one solid piece of glass, yet still hold its moulded shape. All Lime Milkshake jewellery is made with 304 stainless steel findings as well a kangaroo leather. If you would prefer your items to be vegan, I can use faux leather or cord. Please use the contact page to request this. Due to the nature of theses individually handmade items, there may be small imperfections present. Each piece is completely unique and one of a kind with no two pieces being the same. On the rare occasion that some items are made in multiple, they will be made with the same glass however the design may vary.

A little behind the scenes at Lime Milkshake this week — I’ve been making bees. Lots of bees. 🐝

If, like me, you’re allergic to bees, these ones are a much safer option. 😂 They won’t sting you, they’ll just sit happily amongst your flowers looking pretty. 🌼🌱

You can come see them (and me) this weekend at the Central Coast Daffodil & Flower Fair at the Ulverstone Rowing Club, Saturday 13th September, 8:30–3:30.

Then on Friday 19th September I’ll be at the Turners Beach Twilight Market, 4–8pm, where I’ll also be doing a lampwork demonstration. 🔥

If you’ve ever wondered what actually goes on when I’m making these things, come have a look. It’s basically me, a flame, some very hot glass and hoping I don’t muck it up while people watch. 😂🔥

🌼🌸 SPRING MARKET TIME 🌸🌼

This Saturday, Lime Milkshake is heading to the Central Coast Daffodil & Flower Fair at the Ulverstone Rowing Club! 🌼

There’ll be flowers, spring vibes, beautiful local stalls and, of course, plenty of handmade glassy goodness.

🐑 💩 I’ll be tucked in amongst the garden goodies, right next to the sheep p**p for your garden 😂— so you can sort out your garden and find yourself something shiny while you’re there.

Come have a wander, soak up all the spring vibes, say hi and maybe take home a little something you absolutely did not know you needed.

I don't do markets often anymore but this one is a new market in Turners Beach and I couldn't say no. 🌊

I haven't demonstrated locally before so come have a look. 👀

🏡 Inside is fully booked with so many beautiful handmade stalls and the outside spaces are close to being full as well so it's due to be a great market. I'll also be next to the best coffee in town- , so win win! ☕

Not too shabby for 4 hours work.

14 Gnomes 🪏
10 Caterpillars 🐛
4 Ladybugs 🐞
2 Turtles 🐢

However, 3 caterpillars and 3 gnomes didn't make it through the firing process and came out with stress fractures 😮‍💨🙄 incredibly frustrating but thats glass for ya.

Tomorrow I'll be setting up at the Whimsical Winter Lilydale Village Market and honestly, it's pretty much the only market I still do.

Not because I don't love markets. I do. But because so many have started to feel like the same thing, over and over again.
Freja and her crew somehow manage to make every single market feel different. There's actual thought behind it. Themes, activities, atmosphere, community stuff, weird little details that make people want to come out and spend a Sunday wandering around instead of staying home in their trackies-and I do love me a fluffy pair of tracking dax.

You can tell how much work goes on behind the scenes, and it shows.

So if you're local and looking for something to do tomorrow, come have a stickybeak. I'll be there with a pile of glassy goodness, most likely running on caffeine from Small Brew, surrounded by a bunch of ridiculously talented makers.
