Our black wool is finally ready.
From sheep to skein, this has been a very small-scale, very Tasmanian process. Shorn here at Brickendon by Steve Rigby, then scoured, carded, picked, roved and spun by the lovely Desma at mtcleodwoollenmill. If you’re interested in the process, head to her page to see the incredible machinery she uses to turn fleece into yarn.
100% Tasmanian, undyed and hand processed, with all of those beautiful natural colours coming straight from our sheep here.
There are some interesting blends amongst the skeins too, using wool from our black Corriedales, Finn sheep and English Leicesters, with a little mohair in some.
If you’ve visited us over the past year, you’ll probably recognise a few of the faces. These are the same sheep you’ll often find grazing around the Farm Village.
We’ve got a bit of weighing and measuring to do before we put them out for sale, as every skein is slightly different. Each will be labelled with its fibre blend, weight, approximate meterage and recommended needle size.
