It’s amazing how much dust finds its way in through these old windows — and probably through the ceiling too, considering it isn’t lined! 😂

But everything’s had a dust, a shuffle and a bit of a rearrange, and I’ve remembered how much I love this little corner of the shop.

Old kitchen scales, canisters, rolling pins, Pyrex, butter dishes and all those ordinary bits and pieces that once lived in someone’s kitchen. 💚

We’ve been sorting and researching old bottles today — stoneware ginger beer bottles, cobalt and amethyst glass, old household bottles and a few tiny treasures.

I love that something once made simply to hold ginger beer, sauce or medicine can survive for a century and end up being collected for the bottle itself.

Some are chipped, some are stained, some have travelled a very long way — and every mark is part of the story.

A big day at the shop today with so many morning teas we nearly ran out of plates (luckily we have lots on the shop floor!)

Then a delivery, followed by a houseful of treasures to go and visit, driving back and forth over the beautiful blue Pioneer River along the way.

And yes, that is furniture wedged into the car behind us. 😂

Our job is never boring — and new stock arrives almost every day!

Now we’re finished for the day and heading home. ❤️

Back tomorrow and open all weekend, 10am–4pm.

A very pleasant afternoon for our first collage & junk journaling gathering. 🦋

We started by sharing the journals we’ve been creating (or have just begun!), talking about what we’re working on and swapping ideas and inspiration.

Then out came the old magazines, papers, scissors and glue, and we each created a butterfly or dragonfly collage.

No great artistic ability required. No rules. Just a table full of interesting bits and pieces, plenty of tea and something sweet, and a couple of hours spent making things and chatting.

Relaxing, creative and lots of fun — I think we’ll have to do this again next week😊

There’s something rather lovely about bringing out a proper tea set — especially when it’s covered in roses.

This gorgeous Royal Tunstall Staffordshire set was made in England and features deep pink roses with delicate gold edging.

It’s been another big week here at Kitten Vintage Mackay.

Someone has thoughtfully made Ted a bed in the library, so he can settle in for a nice long nap over the next couple of days. 🧸📚

We’ll be back Wednesday — perhaps we’ll wake him up with a cup of tea. ☕️

I’ve been sorting through our old button tins and sewing vintage buttons onto vintage-style button cards, as well as wrapping lengths of ribbon onto old-fashioned cards.

The beautiful card graphics are from The Graphics Fairy 🧚 Vintage Images and I think they make the buttons look rather special.

Perfect for junk journals, sewing and craft projects — or simply for displaying in an old sewing box alongside all those lovely haberdashery bits and pieces.

And yes… I could quite happily sit and sort vintage buttons by colour all day. 😂

I love this little corner because it doesn’t quite know what it wants to be.

A little natural history, a little old-world study… and somehow the kitchenware is still hanging on.

Butterflies, shells, books, pottery, old timber, a typewriter and all sorts of curious things. Very Kitten Vintage, really — things don’t have to match, they just have to have a story.

These gorgeous vintage Japanese canisters certainly make the everyday things a little prettier.

Beautiful textured ceramic, delicate floral details, blue trim and those wonderful little flowers on the lids. And even better — the Tea, Coffee & Sugar set has stayed together.

Because practical doesn’t have to be boring.
