A few months ago, Julie and Kim, ladies at my art sessions were painting gourds and inspired me to have a go.

I chose a gourd with a very long thin shape that was covered in variegated brown blotches that reminded me of Melman the giraffe from my favourite movie, Madagascar.

In between Bali holidays and cataract surgery these last couple of months I've been sculpting and preparing my gourd ready to paint. Today I finished the little birdie hitching a ride on the giraffe's back. Once the two part sculpting epoxy has hardened I can begin painting.

I will paint up the sculpted bits to blend in with the gourds natural colours, paint the bird and then place a floral design on the main body of the giraffe where there is a blank patch devoid of those lovely brown blotches. I will post updated photos once he's completed.

So I visited Wool and Wonder, Sanur however their stocks were really low being the end of the month. New stocks arrive around the 4th. What yarns they had were quite nice, however its only a small store.

So on the return journey I stopped off at Toko Central, Kuta and stocked up on Milk Yarn for 12000 IDR ie approximately $1.20. Simililar yarn is $5/ball at Spotlight.

Metal D-rings for hand bags, crochet hooks, stitch markers by the 1,000's and lots of VOOL.

Chinoiserie update.

Experimenting with engraving curved surfaces and created this, my first attempt on a 8cm wooden pebble. The possibilities are endless.

Completed three pieces of the same composition but changed the colour palette and flower details slightly. The blue is my last and favourite as I sprinkled sea salt onto the wet background to give a little texture. I also added Liqutex Iridescent medium to the background wash and later over the flowers and butterfly which gave a gorgeous shimmer but unfortunately the photo doesn't show it up.

This week I'm learning to paint birds and I can't wait.

I've been itching to learn another style of painting for a long time now and finally enrolled in Chinoiserie (shin-wa-sor-ee) French for "Chinese style" and can't wait until the classes begin.

In the meantime I've been following a few YouTubers and trying out watercolour painting as well.

Latest suncatcher design and probably my favourite so far.

Suncatchers completed. Added beadwork and baubles from broken cosmetic jewellery.

Besides looking beautiful as a suncatcher they could be deterents for birds on a fruit tree lol. When the sun is low enough to catch the super glimmer from the holographic flakes my husband noticed the birds have left the area.

I will of course find a new home for them as I love our wildlife.
