New video is up — Respect the Ocean 🌊🎣

The more time I spend offshore, the more respect I have for the ocean.

It can give you some incredible days — great fish, amazing sunrises, whales, dolphins and those moments with mates that you remember for years. But it can also turn quickly, and it definitely doesn’t care how experienced you think you are.

This one is really about that respect — for the sea, the weather, the fish we chase, and the privilege of being able to get out there and enjoy it.

I’ve used my new original song “Respect” in this one too, which I think fits the story really well.

Hope you enjoy it.

Thanks very much to Aussie magazine Fish & Boat for publishing my article on Jetski fishing. This one's theme was my effort to try to change some of the perceptions that all jetski riders are a menace on the water- that the reality is that jetski fishos are just like any other boat fisho and just want to get out there and fish. We just prefer the jetski as a means to do it...

A loose anchor, rough water and a close call on the South Passage Bar.

During Sunday’s crossing, the anchor on a centre console boat fell overboard while still attached to the bow, leaving the crew struggling to keep the boat facing the incoming waves. James and I stood by on our skis as they worked to get clear.

Thankfully, they managed to cut the rope and made it through safely on their own. And it turns out I had met these guys on the ramp some weeks back and had spoken to them offshore a few times!

The mostly unedited video shows the bar conditions, the incident and our crossing—a reminder of how quickly things could go bad as a result of a simple accident.

Respect the ocean. Secure your gear. Make sure your engine is well maintained. Prepare for the worst. And look after each other.

An eventful day offshore yesterday—and a close call for some guys on the South Passage Bar.

With a full moon and a big tide running between Moreton and North Stradbroke Islands, the bar was extremely rough and actually quite dangerous despite only a 1.5m swell. Full moon means larger tides, and the water was running hard against the incoming swell, causing what could only be described as the "washing machine" effect.

A centre console boat got into serious trouble when its anchor came free and dropped overboard in just about the worst possible spot on the bar. With the anchor and rope still attached and pulling the bow around, the captain struggled to keep the boat pointed into the incoming waves. There were some very tense moments when they came close to capsizing.

We stood by on our skis, ready to help if anyone ended up in the water. Thankfully, they managed to cut the rope in time, ditch the anchor and make it through safely. A mix of skill and some luck—and a huge relief for everyone watching.

After that, we headed back out to the 90m reefs. The sharks were very active again and made the fishing tough, but we still managed our fair share of nice fish. I lost around 8 lures and jigs, all taken by sharks too big to bring the surface.

A few photos from the day below. Stay safe out there, respect the ocean, and make sure your gear is secured before crossing a bar!

**ONE MORE CAST…

Some fishing days don't need big drama to be memorable.

Beautiful conditions, an amazing sunrise and a fast run out wide with my mate Wade. A big bonito, a few pearl perch and eventually I bagged out with four quality snapper.

That would have been a pretty good day right there… But there was still time for "one more cast".

We stopped at a nearby FAD on the way home and, first cast, I hooked a legal-sized mahi mahi. You couldn't really script it any better!

I've used one of my original songs, “One More Cast,” in this video. It's part of a collection of music I've been creating around fishing, the ocean, and why we keep heading back out there.

No disasters. No shark dramas this time. Just a bloody good day offshore.

☀️ Plenty of new gear at Jetcast for the summer season!

I’ve been busy adding quite a few new products to the Jetcast website over the past few months, so if you haven’t had a look for a while, there might be something new that catches your eye. Here is a small sample:

🎣 NEW Large Reaper Rig
The Reaper range now includes Small (Slim), Medium (Original), Large and Extra Large sizes. The new **Large Reaper** is ideal for medium-sized dead baits and is currently supplied unrigged, so you can set it up exactly how you like.

You can also add their 60lb multistrand wire and rear treble kits, available in 80mm or 140mm lengths.

🐟 New Live Bait Wire Rig – only $8.95
I’ve sourced a simple, affordable live bait wire rig designed for targeting pelagics up to around 25kg.

As many of you know, after landing a decent mackerel or two, wire rigs can end up looking pretty second-hand! At only $8.95 each, it doesn’t hurt quite so much when it’s time to replace one. And definitely easier than making your own!

🎣 New Jig Keeper
A simple solution to an annoying problem! Attach it to your rod to secure your lure or jig head and help prevent tangles, swinging hooks and rod damage while travelling on your jet ski or boat.

🔧 Sea-Doo ST3 Deck Mate Replacement K**b & Washer Set
A handy replacement for the factory-supplied nuts on ST3 hulls — and well worth keeping a spare set onboard in case the originals are lost or damaged.

⚓ Sea-Doo LinQ Docking Puck & Tether Point
Simply fit the puck into an available LinQ mount and use the supplied short rope as a convenient attachment point when docking. Simple and effective.

🌊 And don’t forget to protect your sounder!

The sounders we use on jet skis and dinghies get hammered by salt spray, water and the Australian sun. A basic sun visor may help with glare, but it does very little to protect the rear of the unit from saltwater exposure.

Rusler Sounder Covers were the original full-cover design and are now proven on thousands of boats and jet skis. They help minimise water and salt getting around the rear of the sounder while also providing an effective sunhood.

They’re made from breathable synthetic canvas, which is particularly important in our hot summer conditions — protection without wrapping your electronics inside a non-breathable cover.

There are now more than 100 products on the Jetcast website, covering jet ski fishing, boating, rigging, sounder protection and accessories.

I’ve also added plenty of fishing articles and an extensive FAQ section, particularly for anyone new to jet ski fishing or looking to improve their setup.

If you haven’t visited Jetcast for a while, have another look — there’s a lot that’s new!

And if you're looking for a package deal to kit out your own fishing chariot, get in contact and I'll do my absolute best to help you out.

Thanks again for supporting Jetcast - and an Australian small business. See you on the water this summer! 🎣🌊**

Sorry to all of the people that had to work today. Absolutely glamorous conditions offshore for most of the day here in SEQ!

There is still a heap of big bait in the water, and it's keeping some good fish in the area. We still lost half to sharks, but I can't complain with a bag of decent snapper and a Mahi for the effort.

The Snapper were all 60-72cm. Lots of big bonito (50cm +) occasionally snipping our lures off , heaps of small pearl perch, and did I mention the BIG sharks?

Less whales heading south now. Water temp around 23 degrees, so summer is fast approaching. Couple of piccies from the video to come eventually:

Ever wonder why we put ourselves through it?

Early starts, long runs offshore, unpredictable weather — and on this trip, getting sharked FOUR times! 😂

But this day also delivered some cracking snapper, curious dolphins swimming up to say hello, and another close encounter with a humpback whale.

For me, that's what fishing is really about. It's not necessarily relaxing. It's swapping the everyday pressures of life for a completely different kind of pressure — one I choose. For a few hours, the only things that matter are the weather, the ocean, finding fish and whatever the day decides to throw at you.

That's the idea behind my latest video “One Incredible Day Offshore | This Is My Saltwater Therapy” — and it also was the inspiration behind my original song *Saltwater Therapy*, featured in the video.

This turned out to be one of those days that reminded me exactly why I keep heading offshore. BTW, this was Friday 21st August if you are curious!
