The classic couples snow trip: alarm at 4:30am, three hours of driving, ski until your legs give out, overpriced chips on the mountain, three hours home, asleep by 9pm Sunday.

Technically you went away together. Emotionally you ran a logistics operation.

Here's the version that's actually a weekend away:
Arrive at Alzburg Friday night.
Get your gear sorted at the hire shop, then straight into the hot tub.
Saturday you ski, and you're back to a sauna and hot tub by 4pm instead of a dark highway. Dinner in town. Sleep in. Sunday you wander Mansfield, or squeeze in another half-day on the snow if the legs are willing.
Then you drive home rested, not destroyed.

Same mountain. Same snow. Completely different weekend.

The packing question that derails every first snow trip: what do you actually need to bring, and what should you just hire?

Here's the balance that saves you money and boot space.

Bring from home: thermal layers, ski socks, gloves, beanies, sunglasses. The small stuff that's cheap to buy and annoying to hire.

Hire at Alzburg: jacket, pants, skis or board, boots, poles, helmet. The big-ticket gear that costs a fortune to buy for one weekend a year (and that your kids will outgrow by next season anyway).

Our team sizes everyone in Mansfield before you head up, so there are no shivering kids and no last-minute gear runs at mountain prices. Just warm, dry, smiling humans all day.

Can you do Buller in a weekend from Melbourne? Easily, we're 3 hours from the CBD.
Do you need to drive up the mountain? Not if you jump on our bus.
Do you need your own gear? Nope. Skis, boards, boots, poles, helmets... hire the lot here at the Alzburg Resort.
Is Buller good for beginners? Yes, plenty of beginner terrain and great instructors.
What about food? Sorted on the mountain, plus Mansfield's restaurants on the way home.
Family-friendly? Heated pool, hot tub, sauna, tennis courts and a playground all say yes.
And the big one: can you book it all in one go? Stay, gear hire and day tour, all through our website. One booking. Done.

4pm Friday. You've survived the week, the drive out of the city and the "are we there yet" chorus from the back seat.

Then it gets easy.

You park once, in our carpark, not on the mountain. Check in. Someone tells you when breakfast is and when the bus leaves. You walk to the hire shop and the staff size up your whole group. You eat. You swim in the heated pool, or claim the sauna, or the hot tub (no judgement, it was a long week).

Tomorrow morning you're on the bus with your gear sorted, lift-ready before most people have found a park.

That's the whole system. No 6am mountain traffic. No queuing for boots while the good snow gets tracked out. No parking fees stacked on top of everything else.

Let's talk about the part of the snow trip nobody really doesn't want to: the bill.

On-mountain accommodation. Mountain parking fees. On-mountain gear hire. 'Cheap' day tours that mysteriously don't include lift passes. It adds up fast, and it usually adds up after you've committed.
