Margaret River Central - Local history, world class products and personal service! Margaret River Central, a modern, independently owned shopping destination remains true to its historical roots solely housing independent and locally owned unique businesses, products and services. It greets everyone driving south on the Bussell Highway heading into town. Margaret River town sits on a site that was
historically referred to as the ‘Upper Margaret on the river’ where Bussell Highway now crosses. Margaret River Central is situated on the Congregational Church site of the early 1900’s that cornered the cross roads of Bussell Highway and what once was mapped as Wallcliffe Rd (now Tunbridge Street). The building site through history has evolved from a pre 1930’s boarding house establishment to the towns general store offering a variety of fresh produce, grocery and dairy industry ice cream products that were connected to long standing settlement families in the region. The current Margaret River Central owners, Settlers Holdings bought the corner store opening as ‘Four Square Store’ in 1980. It ran as a general store until progressive development ensued opening the doors to the town’s first supermarket complex with the flagship store IGA. This complex, newly branded as Margaret River Central shopping destination remains to be the all original supermarket in Margaret River since 1992. Importantly the connection to the Margaret River community, people and place remains a legacy and core value. It is lamented by locals that the shopping experience has attachments to ‘old’ town life in Margaret River. However moving with the times and consumer demands Margaret River Central is representative of what the Margaret River brand has become internationally renown; a meeting place for people, for world class wine, fresh produce, locally farmed gourmet foods and the hospitality of a relaxed and creative community. Staff at Margaret River Central pride themselves on quintessential South West customer service. Independent store owners uphold the ‘settlers’ spirit, loyal to keeping the local economy alive through relationships and representation of new and established local brands, products and the arts. Visitors to Margaret River can enjoy boutique local selections curated for shopper demands that are priced for savvy local and health conscious consumers. Recognised as a hub for grassroots community charity activities it also supports shopper engagement at a personal level with groups garnering awareness for causes closest to residents hearts. This aspect of our shopping destination and culture is a unique point of difference and a key thread that will always remain at the core of the Margaret River Central brand. Equally the shopping complex offers valued convenience for all shoppers as a place to meet and is a place where you are recognised with personalised service by shop owners and friends. It offers public facilities, free off-street all vehicle parking and the convenience of a central location and main street access.
