It’s definitely getting colder, but to be fair, we’ve had a beautiful run of mild weather, so we really can’t complain.

Our scarf and shawl collection was such a hit during Mother’s Day that I couldn’t resist bringing in another drop.

“As autumn takes its final bow, I find myself standing between seasons.

Tomorrow winter arrives, but today I am grateful for the leaves that changed colour, the lessons that changed me, and the people who continue to walk beside me.

This morning I’m feeling a little quieter than usual, but gratitude doesn’t require perfection. Sometimes it simply asks us to pause and notice what we already have.

A warm home. Meaningful work. Family. Faith. Hope.

For that, I am blessed.

“The Πανελλήνιος Κήρικας!” 📰🇬🇷

Try saying that as a 5 year old being sent to the newsagency with a crumpled $5 note to grab The Greek Herald… and a soft packet of Peter Stuyvesant ci******es for your father.

You’d walk in rehearsing the words the whole way there:
“πα… παλι… πανελλήνιος… κήρικας…”
Meanwhile the lady behind the counter already knew exactly whose child you were. 🇬🇷😂

And God help you if you came home and couldn’t account for every cent in change. There was no “keep the change” in a Greek household. My old man could calculate the entire purchase just by the coins hitting his palm. One look… one pause… then a clip over the ear if I couldn’t tell him how much it cost from the change. 😭😂

But honestly, The Greek Herald was never just a newspaper.

For almost a century it has been the heartbeat of the Hellenic Australian community, carrying the stories of migrants, families, struggles, triumphs, church news, village gossip, engagements, memorials and everything in between. It kept generations connected to language, faith and identity long before everything became a notification on a phone.

Meanwhile, I only turned straight to the social pages to make sure I hadn’t been photographed at clubs I definitely wasn’t allowed to be at. 😂

There was something sacred about bringing that paper home to our parents. The smell of the ink, the folded pages on the kitchen table, the debates over politics, soccer and whose child became a doctor before everyone else’s.

Even during my Father’s final days, I would still read the paper to him. He would stop me mid sentence to correct my pronunciation… then curse the “wasted Greek school fees” he paid for all those years.❤️

Today everything is online. Faster, easier, disposable. But the Πανελλήνιος Κήρικας still feels like a piece of our parents. A piece of home. A piece of us.

I have copies at the shop today and I’ll be gifting one to my Manoula , My mother-in-law and Kyria Dina next door and of course my Μπαμπα at his place of rest.

Some women pose beside flowers… apparently I pose beside Zeus himself 😂⚡️

To be fair, when I saw this giant head of Zeus staring at me, I felt strangely understood. Strong minded, slightly dramatic, protective of the people he loves and known to throw the occasional thunderbolt when necessary… honestly, it felt less like a statue and more like a family portrait 😌

But standing there also made me think…

In Greek mythology, Zeus was the God of the sky and thunder, powerful, fearless and larger than life. Yet even the mightiest figures in history and mythology began as stories. Stories of resilience, courage, reinvention and belief.

And maybe that’s the reminder we all need sometimes.

You do not have to be ordinary simply because life has been difficult.
You are allowed to rise after heartbreak.
You are allowed to rebuild yourself after loss.
You are allowed to take up space, shine brightly and walk through life with strength and softness together.

So here’s to channeling a little Zeus energy ✨
Standing tall.
Protecting your peace.
Trusting your power.
And trying not to throw lightning bolts at people who deserve it 😂⚡️

Each year on my Name Day I become a little emotional. I always recall how proud my Father was of this special day. He loved that I was named after his beloved Mother. He would say, “Elenio, you carry the name of an incredible Saint!! not only your Yiayia who is my biggest Saint, but that of Ayia Eleni herself.”

A strong willed woman, Ayia Eleni went on a quest with her son Konstantino to find the Holy Cross of Christ. Their quest was not in vein they overcame so much and yet it was the basil 🌿 growing on the exact spot that drew her to seek their discovery. I have always loved knowing this story and understanding how meaningful tomorrow is, not only for those like myself celebrating their Name Day, but for Christianity itself.

Tomorrow, the feast day of Ayia Eleni and Konstantino , Elenio Store will be closed in the morning.
Open from 12:30pm – 4:30pm, to allow me time to attend church and an important appointment. Apologies for any inconvenience. I will be in store by 12.30.

To all celebrating tomorrow, Χρόνια Πολλά may you be proud of your amazing namesake Saints ✝️🤍

I know I keep promising online shopping, and I take full accountability that I haven’t followed through properly just yet. I truly thought I could juggle everything on my own, but I’ve finally engaged a team to help me bring that vision to life… so watch this space.

And now here we are… 7000 followers following me “Elenio,” as my dad used to call me, which is exactly where the name of my business came from. How proud he would be of his Elenio today 🤍
