Uni mark is released, so I can finally share my latest artwork created for a creative response assignment! 🥳

Title:Plato's Theory of Ideas
Medium: Chair, primed hardboard, watercolour, oil paint, screws.

Topic:Conceptualism

Inspired by Sol LeWitt’s iconic "Paragraphs on Conceptual Art" (1967), I, as a 'perception artist' with an emotive and expressionistic style, ventured into the realm of contemporary conceptual art. Following LeWitt’s rules like "all planning and decisions are made beforehand" and "the idea becomes a machine that makes art", I created a piece that responds to three masterpieces: Joseph Kosuth’s "One and Three Chairs" (1965), Jasper Johns' "Fool's House" (1964), and Marcel Duchamp’s "Tu m'" (1918).

My artwork challenges the notion of the ideal form, echoing Plato's 'Myth of the Cave', where sensory objects are mere reflections of pure ideals. Although the chair looks odd, it's fully functional and comfortable—emphasizing that even unconventional representations can serve their purpose.

Special thanks to Peter! Without him, this wouldn’t have been possible. Not only did he provide the tools and materials, but he also made the executive decision not to trust me with the drill or saw after witnessing my attempt with the sanding machine 😂. His support, especially while I was battling illness and tight deadlines, was absolutely lifesaving!

I'm constantly torn between achieving the perfect balance of light strokes, artistic spontaneity, and the disciplined approach of classical art. The classical school instills invaluable lessons in perspective, form, anatomy, and structure, essential for mastering intricate details like cloth creases, hands, and feet – areas where I struggle and often feel overwhelmed. Yet, tales abound of those who thrived under its tutelage and those who found their passion extinguished by its rigidity.

On the other hand, there's the allure of expressive, raw art – unpolished but captivating in its authenticity. It brims with spontaneity, courage, and at times, a hint of arrogance, yet often lacks the precision of anatomy and proportions.

We've all heard of the modernist artists who, after studying the classical methods, dared to discard them in favor of pioneering movements like modernism and post-modernism. But can we, as contemporary artists, measure up to the giants of the past?

Welcome to the chaotic musings of my mind! As a self-taught amateur artist, I perpetually battle impostor syndrome, haunted by my lack of formal training in classical art. Yet, I find solace in those rare moments when I relinquish control, allowing my art to flow with spontaneity.

What's your perspective on this eternal dilemma?

Just in case someone still does not know (😅), I have my artsy Instagram page - Ginger Flair. I recently emerged from my creative lethargy, delving back into art and studying art history and history at La Trobe (yes, still 🙊). If you miss me, that's probably where I'll be most present now.

I'm a novice in art, but I'm taking you along on my journey. Learning to share my thoughts, trying to be myself, and stopping the creation of multiple entities. I'm fighting my inner critic, studying how to be a critic, sharing a beautiful art studio with two assistants 🦁🐯, and wandering around with a vintage blue suitcase like an absolute crazy person 🤓.

If you're interested in joining me on this journey, I'll put a link for you in the first comment ❤️

Time to start new projects.

Everything what's has happened just reminded that time to live is now, time to do, what you know how to do is now. You might not have tomorrow. But you have today. Burn as bright as you can!

Went to my first portrait session with a sitter. Done multiple sketches, that's the one in colour where the likeness did not escaped me yet 😅

Fascinating that yesterday at life drawing I was working in every possible medium on cotton watercolour paper, and today I was trying to push around water and pigment in a sketch book. L - logic.

But having heaps of fun both days at . Not taking myself seriously, letting myself play with every possible material and tool I have in bag (and it bloody big bag I have... the only think I dont have -is the material i wish to use - my only love- oils) what force me to be creative and don't take myself seriously. And does shut up inner critic a bit.

Looking forward more

Little watercolor sketch of watercolor paint tubes from . Every time I find a cute sketch I've done, I promise myself to practice it more. However, a part of my issue is wanting to be good right away with every material I try, even when some are challenging to the point of torture (yes, graphics, I'm talking about you). The vivid colors, interactions with paint, and color mixing are the main reasons I enjoy the art process. I absolutely admire oil, especially its rough, rich, lustrous texture. However, I often force myself to do things I dislike, especially when not in the best creative mindset, leading me to give up on art for a long time.

Nevertheless, watercolor sketching is a discipline I wish to master simply because these materials are much easier to transport than oils 🤣.

Either by the end of 2021 or early 2022 🙈

Yes it's just a small tiny still life on a A4 canvas pad, but you need to get your confidence back somewhere.

A little digital self portrait. Lately few people have not recognised me at the event, coz they have not seen my face for so long, I guess… Wanted to do cartoon style, but swinged more into realism realm at the end…

Well, maybe I should be kinder to myself and braver and share my second work ever done in Procreate.
This is art for custom commander Magic The Gathering card for Easter present for a friend. I called her Svaroga, Inferno Blacksmith and she is a monored Elememntal. Card is caring about Artifacts and treasures, and “Friendship” treasure is a running joke in our friendship group.

I know, I am no (god, I admire his works!!! Check him out!), but I was promising myself to post here my works, as this page is my art diary. And now I am hiding all of them, coz they are not good enough 😖

There is one reason why I like sketching people on the beach - distance! It make the blurrier and take away details, so for beginner like me I don't get overwhelmed by amount of visual information. Also people usually don't even see that I am attempting to sketch them, so there is no pressure of making them look good, slim, etc and none looking over the shoulder, none comparing model with pictures (and destroying my already very fragile self-esteem).

The reason why it is not fun - its boring. Either people move A LOT and very fast (like my own models, every attempt to paint them end up in bin, they cant stay still even for a second!) or they just lay or stand blandly...

Recently I have fascination with people in hats, as you can guess by all the models...

I would love to be brave enough and good enough to sketch people in city and cafes... but looks like not in this life 😭

Ps: my knowledge about dog anatomy is zero 😂😂😂 trust me, today sketch of this dog is better the yesterdays one 🤪
