๐Ÿ“š Billie King ๐Ÿ“š

Shannon Kelly-White's debut novel is exceptional - it's in the running for my favourite for the year ๐Ÿ’œ

I loved the setting, the characters, the horses, the language and, of course, the story.

The character of 12 year old Billie King is so fierce and lovable - I will never forget her.

HIGHLY recommend this one to everyone!! Can't believe how lucky we are to have Shannon heading our way in September - you won't want to miss it!

BLURB:
A blisteringly fast, fresh, funny and hugely entertaining novel of mothers, daughters and one gutsy wild colonial girl who gets caught up in Australia's last female bushranger's quest for revenge. Think Leah Purcell'sย The Drover's Wifeย meets Trent Dalton.

1918: Australia's last bushranger, Dulcie James, holds up Anna King's falling-down farmhouse. There's a scrawny unloved infant on the floor, Anna seems more furious than frightened, and it's the bushranger who's left shaken. And the next day, Anna disappears.

Twelve years later, Anna's daughter, Billie King, is a girl ready to explode. With a missing mother, the rent in arrears and her alcoholic father's gambling debts to cover, she has no time for school. But when child services threaten to remove Billie from her father, she must decide between continuing her search for her missing mother and keeping what's left of her family together. If she fails to hold onto her father, she'll be taken away and placed in a children's home, but if she doesn't find her missing mother, who will?

๐Ÿ“š Author Event ๐Ÿ“š

It was a great turn out on a wintery Friday evening as we enjoyed hearing from talented authors Mark Smith and Sarah Bailey as they discussed their recent suspense-filled releases.

Mark spoke of his way of placing ordinary people in extraordinary situations, leaving the reader to question what they themselves would do. And how he used the motto 'don't scream when you can whisper' to share his passion for climate change and the right to protest without preaching to his audience - which he absolutely nailed.

Sarah spoke of the evolution of the news and ethics when it comes to reporters sharing the news, and the balancing act of getting the 'clicks' while still maintaining integrity. She also shared how she ended up with a dual narrative in her latest release and how she struggles to keep up when writing about technology.

It was also interesting hearing about the difference in writing Young Adult compared to Adult novels, as is Mark's experience, and the importance of writing good dialogue to move the story forward.

So much to take in, in such a short amount of time!

A huge thank you to Mark and Sarah for popping down to Meeniyan, thank you to all who attended and to Aunty Jo for supplying the much needed hot drinks on a very chilly evening.

Special shout out to mega fan Jodi who came with the entire backlist from both authors to get signed! Book people really are the BEST people!

๐Ÿ“š New Releases ๐Ÿ“š

Back after a few days away to boxes of goodies ready to add to the shelves:

๐Ÿ“š The Tsubaki Stationery Store by Ito Ogawa
Set to the rhythm of the four seasons and the Japanese rituals and festivities that come with them, Tsubaki Stationery Store is a charming story about the importance of community and the reconciliatory power of the written word.

๐Ÿ“š The Bookshop Detectives: Murder and Mojitos by Gareth & Louise Ward.
Art Deco glamour, a Cuban crime queen and a grammar-obsessed killer collide in the #1 best-selling Bookshop Detectivesโ€™ high-stakes third and final instalment.

๐Ÿ“š Mire by Matt Nable
A page-turning thriller, Mire takes us from the testosterone-fuelled stock market floor in 1980s Sydney to the coastal green hills of the NSW South Coast and onto the Mafia-ruled streets of New York. The body count is high - and the stakes are even higher.

๐Ÿ“š He Who Fights With Monsters by Shirtaloon
A LitRPG adventure with magic, monsters and mystery. Exciting, hilarious, irreverent and action-packed.

๐Ÿงฉ Well-Read Cats Jigsaw
A 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle, reimagining eight literary classics with a unique feline spin.

๐Ÿ“š Click ๐Ÿ“š

A woman dead...two missing.
An unpredictable killer.
A city on edge.

Sarah Bailey's new release CLICK follows on from The Housemate with reporter Olive Groves trying to solve a cryptic crime.

If you haven't read The Housemate, it doesn't matter at all. Easily read Click as a standalone - although I'm very much hoping for another book in this series asap!

If you have enjoyed Ashley Kalagian Blunt's Dark Mode and Cold Truth, with the dark web at its core, then this book is for you.

I can't wait to hear all about Sarah's process and planning when she visits Meeniyan on July 10th with Mark Smith, as she has plotted this story so meticulously with two timelines running alongside eachother in real time - it blows my mind.

Tickets are available in store and online now to secure your seat!

๐Ÿ“š The Time After Now ๐Ÿ“š

๐Ÿ’œThese beauties are about to hit the shelves and I cannot wait to share them with you!

Many moons ago I was delighted to be contacted by Anne to read her debut novel Returning to Adelaide. I absolutely loved it and jumped aboard the Anne Freeman train and continue to enjoy everything she has created.

Anne has really upped her game with The Time After Now. She has perfectly captured the nostalgia of your party years and the life shift into parenthood and responsibility, while also shining a much-needed light on what itโ€™s like living with type 1 diabetes.

Anne has taken the relatability of motherhood in Returning to Adelaide and the unapologetic rawness of Me That You See to create this super-novel.

She has fast become one of my favourite authors and is a ripper of a person I now call a friend ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ

Anne will be joining us in Meeniyan later in the year!
