HISTORY OF THE MARKET
Over 36 years ago, the ladies of the Altona Lions Club gathered in each other’s homes to make things they could sell at a weekend market. The market, as well as being a local attraction would provide funds to be distributed to community projects. From the original six stalls, Cherry Lake Market has grown to be an Altona icon. In 2018, its 36th year and with the support of Council, the Cherry Lake Cultural Series commenced as an initiative of our musical director. Resident band, Visionary Steel, provides the background musical performances for the market, while local groups from the community are invited to showcase their talents in special guest appearances.
