I hope you win the war nobody knows about.
The one that happens quietly.
In the moments you choose to respond differently than you were taught to.
In the way you catch yourself mid-pattern and gently, imperfectly, try again.
In the deep breath before you say the thing you used to swallow, or don’t say the thing you used to throw.
Nobody sees that war.
There’s no finish line, no one clapping for you when you set a boundary your body wasn’t taught to hold, or when you love someone without abandoning yourself to do it, or when you sit with a feeling instead of numbing it or performing it away.
You are undoing things that were never yours to carry.
Patterns passed down before you had any say in them.
Coping mechanisms that kept a smaller version of you safe, but that you’ve outgrown.
That undoing is slow.
It doesn’t look like progress most days.
It looks like tears in the shower, or snapping at someone you love and then doing the harder thing of repairing it, or lying awake wondering if you’re doing any of this right.
You are.
Even when it doesn’t feel like it.
Even when you can’t see the shift from where you’re standing.
Every time you choose alignment over old habit, you are doing the work.
You are allowed to be gentle with yourself in the messy middle of it.
You don’t have to have it figured out to be doing it right.
So however your war looks today, quiet or loud, one step forward or three steps back, I hope you win it. And I hope you know you already are.
Allow yourself to breathe out, let the weight of what you carry become a little lighter knowing you are doing the best you can, and that’s perfect 🤍
A love note from Georgia, a mother, a daughter, a wife and human.
