When I asked Lucy what she would do differently if she could go back in time, she said to stop spending so much time researching prams! I couldn’t help but laugh even though at the time I’m sure it wasn’t a laughing matter.
When I read her Q&A, what stood out most during her recovery was how much support, nourishment, and mental load mattered in those early days.
With The Herborium 28-Day Postpartum Package, she didn’t have to source or prepare anything. Her mum made the soups while she focused on her baby and recovery.
Her words for postpartum?
Shock. Horror. Joy. So much in these 3 words combined together.
In TCM, this is the most depleted phase of the body, where warmth, nourishment, and support matter most. So when you’re preparing for your baby, remember to prepare for yourself too.

TCM said to slow down and I said say less!

Winter in TCM is the season where everything naturally slows down.

Energy moves inward, activity decreases, and Yin becomes dominant. It’s the body’s way of saying rest, conserve, restore.

This is the time we support the Kidneys, our deepest reserves of energy and vitality, and focus on building warmth from the inside out.

In my kitchen that looks like:
- Warm water everyday
- Sweet potato and pumpkin, gently warming and supporting the Spleen to help build energy
- Black foods like black sesame and black beans to nourish Kidney energy
- Warming meats such as chicken, beef, ox tail, and lamb
- Warming herbal soups with TH Soup Tonics such as immunity, performance and restore.
- Warming herbal teas such as the TH Red Dates Restorative Tea
- Slow-cooked meals and stews
- Congee and TH Digest adzuki bean, black glutinous rice porridge
- Cooking with warming spices such ginger and cinnamon

And it’s not just food.
- Keep the neck, abdomen, and feet warm
- Prioritise rest and earlier nights (when the little one will cooperate with me)
- Allow for less social stimulation and more hibernation
- Follow your natural instinct to slow down instead of pushing through

What you protect and build now in Winter becomes your energy for Spring.

This is what I wish every new mother heard besides “congratulations!”, so you go into motherhood feeling more prepared, less burnt out and blindsided by what’s to come.

Most women are told, “you probably just have low iron”.

But in TCM, Blood is responsible for much more than circulation and iron levels.

While iron levels are still very important, in TCM, Blood also nourishes your skin, hair, sleep, periods, fertility, emotions and overall vitality.

When it is abundant, you feel good.

When you’re tired, many try to get more energy through more coffee. More exercise. More sweets.

The problem is, these often push the body further into depletion especially when Blood is already low.

Swipe to read how you can support your Blood and energy for the long-term.

**if you do feel any of these symptoms, I recommend consulting a TCM practitioner to assess your constitution and do some blood work analysis.

Lucy is in the season of daily cyclones running after 2 kids under 4 whilst running a small business.

Being held by her mother through her postpartum recovery shaped how Lucy sees care and intends to do the same for her daughters.

This is how postpartum care extends beyond recovery, shaping how care is passed through generations to come.

You can follow Lucy’s business adventures as a mum over at

We just finished Pursuit of Jade and accidentally ended up doing a Traditional Chinese Medicine wellness audit!

It’s set in a fictional DaiYin dynasty, loosely inspired by the Song (960–1279) and Ming (1368–1644) periods.

Throughout the show, other than frothing a little, I kept thinking, yep the Chinese really had this figured out a long time ago.

If you haven’t jumped on the band-wagon, I would highly recommend it for the plot and wellness education. The politics is a little hard to follow, but don’t worry, there’s lots of explanations on social media.

In many traditional cultures, postpartum recovery starts in the kitchen.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, birth naturally depletes Qi, Blood, and Body Fluids, which is why so many mums feel tired, emotional, or notice changes in energy and lactation in those early weeks.

That’s where these 10 Chinese postpartum herbs come in.

Used for generations in Chinese households, these pantry staples support:
• energy recovery after birth
• milk supply and lactation support
• emotional grounding
• digestion and rebuilding strength

If you want this done for you, our 28-day postpartum herbal packages are designed to take the guesswork out of it so you can focus on rest.

**This post is for educational purposes only. For any specific conditions, I would highly recommend consulting a TCM practitioner for tailored herbal guidance. Chinese herbs are generally used in combination rather in isolation.

It might feel like a lot of what you see online about Traditional Chinese Medicine feels quite strict. But TCM was always about being observational, fluid and personalised.
