Winter recovery brew- bone broth, mixed mushrooms, fresh dandelions, topped up with reishi tea from my big cast iron kettle. I could live off this stuff :)

These words reverberated through me as I picked wild greens today. Voices of wild places and ancestors gone. Dandelion, plaintain, sorrel... such abundance if you know where to look.

Do you know that thousands of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples served in the Australian Defence Forces since the 1860s?

More than 1000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples served in the First World War, and more than 4000 in the Second World War. At least 300 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples served in the Vietnam War.

Our people have served on the ground, in the air, at sea and on horseback. When our people returned they were not respected, recognised or acknowledged. Instead they were subjected to discrimination and prejudice. Our people were denied employment and the benefits offered to other returning service personnel.

Djirra acknowledges and honours the sacrifices made by the many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who served in the Australian defence forces.

Sorry to say that we will be closed for a little longer due to post travel feline and human health dramas. One witch in extended COVID iso, and one moggie recovering with her.

While we were about as far away as we could get by land, the Bad_Thing happened... Burnie had a medical emergency. He spent about a week in vet hospital (a few of those nights is the ICU), he was a very sick kitty indeed.

He is now home and recovering well. Sending a huge thanks to my family for looking after him so well while I was away, and to my amazing parents for paying his hideously large vet bill!

We arrived safely back in Melbourne glad to be home after driving about 15,000kms and both promptly tested positive for COVID. Having dodged it the last few years in Melbourne, we seem to have picked it up while briefly passing through South Australia, go figure.

Taking this as a sign to slow down and focus on self care and spirit more, but looking forward to being able to get outside again and enjoy the beautiful autumn weather in the garden! 🌿🖤

Wanderlust has bitten hard after several long years of covid lockdowns!

Black Cat Supply Co. will be closed March-April while we are off on adventures.

We are headed to Kakadu via Perth... very much looking forward to being away for civilization for a while.
