STORY TIME FOR GROWN-UPS ARE BACK! 📚
A 'Picture Book' Book Club 🤓

If history is anything to go by, adults appreciate and laud both art and poetry.

Picture books are poetry and art combined in a tome you can keep and revisit. They are not exclusively for childhood and at The Little Bookroom we believe in their relevance at every age and stage of life.

Story Time For Grown-Ups is a book club where you don't need to have read the book before you turn up!

We'll share a drink, read 3 or 4 carefully chosen picture books together and then discuss them with all the consideration they deserve. We'll talk about how they work, what storytelling techniques they're using, how they succeed as read aloud or read alone texts, and how much can be achieved in (usually) 32 pages.

There are 2 dates for Term 4, we'll be reading the same books at each event, so you only need to book for one:
📚Tuesday 13th October
📚 Wednesday 28th October

🕕 6pm - 7:30pm 🕕

Incredibly popular, please book in advance, if you're keen to join!
We cap the events to ensure room for discussion.

🎟️ Tickets are $25 (plus booking fee) and include $25 instore credit to spend on the night

How is the first week of September almost gone already? 🏃

We're zooming through the year and with a new month, comes a new zine 📰

Made to fit small hands and be tucked into pockets for safe keeping; come in store to pick up your free copy of our monthly zine. It features reviews by kids themselves, as well as recommendations from our well-read team.

We are also looking for REVIEWERS for upcoming editions; especially teens! Each successful reviewer receives a $50 gift voucher to use at The Little Bookroom. Find out all the details on our website: littlebookroom.com.au/zine

This zine is possible thanks to the Penguin Children's Bookseller Grant.

The Little Bookroom is delighted to announce we are a recipient of the ABA Bookseller Events Grant!

We are one of 26 bookshops across Australia that will receive funding to bring our
events program to life. The program is designed to support the creation of events
that otherwise wouldn’t be possible, allowing us to connect literary communities and encourage new and underserved audiences into our bookshop.

We’ve begun planning some very special workshops for young creatives, which will take place across the Summer Holidays. We'll also be organising some panel discussions for grown-ups all about kids literature. One featuring picture book creators discussing their craft, and one with experts helping us with practical tips on how to read to, and with, children. We're aiming for these to take place in the final quarter of the year.

We can’t wait to share updates with you. More details to come soon!

The ABA Bookseller Events Program has been assisted by the Australian
Government through Writing Australia.

🍎 Join us for some school holiday fun to celebrate a brand-new LITTLE LUNCH adventure with creators Danny Katz and Mitch Vane! 🍎

📚THURSDAY 1st October, 11am 📚

Come along and step into Rory’s wonderfully silly world as we watch an episode of LITTLE LUNCH on the big screen, hear a story from the new book and get creative with a special draw-along with Mitch Vane ()!

About the book:
Return to the world of LITTLE LUNCH with fan-favourite Rory in this hilarious, highly illustrated story by award-winning duo Danny Katz and Mitch Vane.

Rory likes pretending to be different things. On Monday he's a crocodile, on Tuesday he's a giant spider crab, and on Wednesday he's a bowling ball. But when he keeps hurting his chin, Rory decides he better stop pretending and just be himself. The problem is, he isn't sure how to be a kid named Rory!

Today is Indigenous Literacy Day!

ILD is a national celebration of First Nations stories, cultures and languages and this year the theme is 'Country Is Our Teacher'.

Celebrate ILD by watching the ILD film and livestream, or by reading an ILF published book that's been written in remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. We have a range available in store.

We recognise how important First Nations storytelling is and donate 5% of profits from First Nations books to the all year round.
