A fly. Having a wash. Atop a spent mosquito casing.
Trapped in the surface tension. Between the above and below.
The tail end of the larval stage now empty of its host, sits under the water.

It becomes a party boat for some very excited flies who are frolicking and arguing over its use.

Sometimes, the smallest things can be the most fascinating, this is one of the coolest pictures I have ever taken...of thousands.
Perhaps just a fly...

But in my mind....
Flies are cool. And we couldn't manage without them. We all work together...us and the maggots generally 😂

Beautiful Polydesmida from Northern Victoria, a little breeding project I have going, had some mating activity this week, fingers crossed!
A group of three live in my most well aged tank, plenty of moss, a fern that has completely taken over, and plenty of rotting wood and insect frass to keep them happy 🌱
I haven't managed to I.d these yet, they are unusual with striking banding and a larger size of around an inch or just under, very active too, which is so fun to watch.

An Armadillidium Vulgare I picked out for the morph tub. Had a tub collapse due to too much moisture build up while im balancing and trying some new things in the lab, the substrate had become sodden and therefore mould had run rampant. This gas build up can kill your pods if it gets out of hand, and alas, I lost at least 8 unusual vulgare that I had hand selected.

A silver lining...amongst the fallen comrades, this lady clung on, after realising she was heavily gravid, and by human eye I could see some kind of morphological difference in her underside...I really wasn't too sure if it was just her final death knell. I secured her comfort, exposed her to cold oxygen and carbon dioxide in turn to get some response.

Then left her in a dry spot....this is what happened next. Birth!
I was very doubtful she would make it, but absolutely stoked she would pass on genes gained in the tub and her life would not be in vain....BUT SHE LIVES! Gave birth to oodles of gorgeous teeny white babies and went on her way! Excellent result, and honestly very happy to get these shots!

Wanted to draw this guy for a while now and finally got around to it, they have the most incredible translucent exo skeleton with this blue that comes through, spiky isopods come in many variations and colours through out the world, im fortunate to have some of the native australian type breeding out, fascinating little pod 🩵

Find translucent backed stickers in the shop, they are huge and the print quality is second to none!

look I finally did it 😂 now I'm going back to my spider cave! 💜

Central Victorian Regional Insect Collection

My heart is so full from all the buggy love, what a magical community that grows every day!
Never did I think as a 35 yr old I would get to talk bugs with so many incredible, skilled, diverse, and just truly talented people.
So many of you came to say hello, bought something from myself or other vendors, and showed your full support by venturing out in the pouring rain with big smiles. So many new faces, some I've been fortunate enough to see for two years running 💜

The beautiful comments, gifts, and conversations just flaw me every time, and I can't thank you all enough! The Raffle was a huge success, and making someone smile this much truly was the icing on the cake for the whole expo! Look forward to the next giveaway collab if you would like to partner up, please contact me, I hope to offer these regularly with proceeds going to a nominated conservation charity 🌱

The mealworm display was a highlight for so many, watching strangers, people of all ages, families, teachers, and more surrounding it and discussing the global plastic pollution crisis, was so humbling and meant the absolute world to me. So many of you said you wanted to replicate it in classrooms, discuss it with peers and share this fascinating discovery 🌏♻️

I can't wait for next year! Some major plans and projects in the pipeline for this year too, I can't wait to share this with you all as things develop, but let's just say, I am working as hard as I can to bring us new and exciting possibilities in this wonderful nature loving community 💜
