You don’t need another day of information.

You need education that changes what you do, when you walk back on the ward for your next shift.

Sometimes you’re following the feeding plan that was handed over.

Doing what the previous shift documented.

Trying to get through a busy shift with ten other things happening.

And that’s ok.

But I want to help you recognise when it’s time to stop and ask: “Why are we still doing this?”

The mum I saw today has had her first baby... a sweet 35 weeker who spent his first days in the SCN.

In his first 18 hours, he received a large volume of formula and had no breastfeeds, despite his mum being very clear that she wanted to breastfeed.

The initial supplementation was for low blood sugar.

But what happened after that?

Was anyone still questioning the plan?

Was the formula still indicated?

And who was actively protecting this mum’s breastfeeding relationship?

THIS is why my Lactation Training exists.

To help you question.

To help you think critically.

And to use the research to inform your practice.

If you’re a Midwife, SCN Nurse, MCHN or Doula and you want to develop this kind of clinical thinking, DM me or comment TRAINING and I’ll send you the details.

If you’re a Midwife or Nurse working in a Melbourne hospital, it’s worth checking whether your workplace allows you to use paid professional development or study leave to attend external education.

My in person Lactation Training is also designed to contribute towards your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements, so you’re investing in education you can take straight back into your practice.

A full day of practical, evidence based lactation education for Midwives, SCN Nurses, MCHNs and Doulas who want to end the conflicting advice and feel confident applying the research in their practice.

📍 Chadstone — Friday 16 October
📍 Moonee Ponds — Friday 30 October
⏰ 9:45am–4pm
💰 Early Bird tickets until 27 September (or until they sell out)

If you’re employed, ask whether you can use paid professional development or study leave to attend and if you’re self employed, your CPD hours still come with you.

Comment TRAINING or DM me and I’ll send you the details. Join me and let’s collectively elevate breastfeeding support 🫶🏻

There’s nothing wrong with checking.

Skilled Midwives check.

But there are certain breastfeeding situations where you want the knowledge to be so familiar that when you’re standing in front of a mother and her baby, you know you stuff.

That’s the difference I want you to feel in your practice.

This week my lovely Package client shared a great breastfeeding win.

Her baby needed a feed on the walk home from the park, so she stopped, commenced the feed and breastfed while walking home 👏🏻👏🏻

Breastfeeding is a skill and in the early days you can feel like everything needs to be all set up.

But then you start finding your groove…

… and suddenly you’re breastfeeding on the go!

Can you remember the first time you breastfed standing up or walking?

Mine was in Bunnings 😂😂 and I remember thinking… look at me go haha!

You can know the breastfeeding guidelines, understand the physiology and still be unsure what this mother and baby need in front of you.

Clinical confidence comes from knowing what you’re looking at... and what to do next.

That’s what we focus on in my in-person Lactation Training for Midwives (plus SCN Nurses, MCHN’s and Doulas): practical, evidence-based learning you can take straight into your practice.

📍 Chadstone — 16 October
📍 Moonee Ponds — 30 October

Early Bird tickets are on sale now. Bring a colleague, study days are always more enjoyable when you have someone to sit next to and debrief with over lunch.

My son got what we assumed was a mozzie bite while we were in the heart of the Sabah jungle on the Kinabatangan River and he couldn’t stop scratching.

I reached into my bag, grabbed my Ni**le Butter and thought… well, it’s not what it’s designed for, but it’s all I had haha!

With ingredients like organic calendula, chickweed, marshmallow root, aloe vera and herb infused olive oil, it actually helped soothe and moisturise the irritated skin and thankfully, stopped the scratching.

Who knew Ni**le Butter would become part of our jungle first aid kit? 😂
