Storing awkwardly shaped kitchen tools is a frustration that quickly eats up cabinet space. We realised most households need multiple heat mats for a big family dinner, but finding a place to stash a stack of them is a headache.

That’s why we designed the RUND Curve set with space-saving geometry in mind. You get two complementary sizes that nest perfectly inside one another like a puzzle. It gives you double the protective surface area when you're serving a roast alongside multiple side dishes, but only takes up the footprint of a single, flat object when it's time to pack up.

What is the most awkwardly shaped kitchen gadget you currently struggle to find a storage spot for?

You spend hours curating the perfect table setting for a dinner party, only to drop a scorched, clunky cork mat right in the middle of it. We see this happen all the time—working hard to make a kitchen look incredible, then compromising the entire setup just to protect the stone or timber from hot pans.

Anick’s 5-star review totally nails why we developed the RUND Curve Trivets. She called them "so chic and aesthetic," which was exactly the goal. We wanted a heat-resistant tool that actually enhances your dinner presentation rather than distracting from it. Because of their fluid, nested shape, they look like a continuous, sculptural ribbon on your benchtop.

What is your current go-to for protecting your benchtops from hot cookware?

Getting out of a warm bed on a chilly morning is arguably the hardest part of the day. When the house is freezing and the sky is still dark, every step of your routine feels like a battle against the elements.

We believe your home should work with you to ease that transition, not fight against it. That’s why we just published a new journal post exploring 12 simple ways to remove the friction from your cold-weather mornings.

From creating the perfect hot drink ritual to introducing tactile, warming textures before your feet even hit the floor, we’ve rounded up the little upgrades that make waking up during the colder months genuinely enjoyable.

What is your absolute non-negotiable ritual for surviving a freezing cold morning?

The biggest limitation in home lighting has always been the nearest power outlet. Hardwired sconces and short cords dictate where you can place a lamp, often leaving the cosiest corners of a room completely in the dark.

We designed our LUME collection to completely detach your ambient lighting from the wall socket. Because they are completely cordless and rechargeable, you get total freedom over how you illuminate your space.

Whether you need to bring a warm glow to the centre of a dining table, light up a dark hallway console, or just want an easy bedside reading light without dealing with a mess of tangled cables, these lamps adapt to exactly how you live.

Where is the one "dead zone" in your home that desperately needs a little bit of ambient light?

It might be called a shoe rack, but we actually designed the FORMA to handle a lot more than just your sneakers. When we were conceptualising this piece, we noticed that entryway clutter is never just footwear. It's the dog lead, the rain jacket, the gym towels, and the umbrellas.

That’s why we built it with a flat, reinforced grid structure instead of angled shoe slats. It easily supports our FORMA Storage Baskets and loose layers right alongside your daily kicks. It takes all those random items that usually end up draped over a dining chair or dumped on the kitchen bench, and gives them a single, organised footprint right by the front door.

Do you have a designated 'drop zone' for your bags and jackets, or do they tend to wander around the house?

One of the most overlooked flaws in standard laundry bins is the lack of airflow. When damp towels and workout gear sit in a sealed box or canvas bag for days, the whole room starts to take on a stale, musty vibe. We love the Zone Denmark Ume basket because it specifically engineers away that moisture trap. The entire cylindrical body features a slotted, breathable design. It allows air to constantly circulate, keeping things fresh, while the rigid construction still completely obscures the mess inside. It’s a highly practical approach to a very basic household problem.

Do you currently separate your damp towels from the rest of your laundry, or does everything go straight into the same bin?

We've all seen it in our homes: the towering laundry pyramid that mysteriously grows on top of a closed basket lid because opening it somehow requires too much effort. When we read Carol’s 5-star review, we knew she'd found the perfect behavioural hack in the Zone Denmark Ume basket.

She told us she loves that there is a hole in the top because "now I don't have to wonder about why the laundry just sits on top." By eliminating that one tiny barrier (lifting a lid), this design magically encourages the family to actually drop clothes in the bin. It is a stunning, sturdy piece of Scandinavian design that finally wins the war against lazy sorting.

Does your household contain a "on-the-top" laundry stacker, or do clothes actually make it inside the bin?

The design world often tries to force us into two strict camps: you are either an ultra-clean minimalist who hides everything away, or you are a highly curated maximalist who fills every corner with texture and art.

But the reality of actually living in a home usually falls somewhere on a spectrum between the two. We just published a new journal post exploring these two distinct aesthetic approaches, breaking down what makes each of them work, and how to find your own personal balance.

Whether you crave the visual silence of bare surfaces or the warm, inviting energy of a layered room, we look at how to pull elements from both styles to create a space that feels authentically yours, rather than just a showroom display.

Where do you sit on the spectrum—do you lean towards clean and minimal, or rich and layered?

Ever notice how the most stunning hotel bathrooms never actually show you the trash bag? You can get that same seamless look at home with the ARC Bin: https://designstuff.com.au/collections/designstuff #/filter:mfield_custom_product_collection:Arc

It’s a detail that used to drive us crazy: Spending time and money styling a space, only to have a plastic grocery bag lazily hanging over the edge of the wastebasket. So, we designed a better way. The ARC uses a hidden inner bucket to hold the liner, while the sleek matte exterior drops right over the top. The messy plastic completely vanishes. There is no awkward tucking or taping required; just a flawless cylinder that respects your interior.

What’s your current strategy, do you risk going bagless, or are you a master at hiding the plastic edge?

We fixed the soggy cloth bath mat problem: https://designstuff.com.au/collections/designstuff #/filter:mfield_custom_product_collection:Curv

There’s an unspoken rule in interior styling: always hide the wet mat before anyone comes over. We were completely over the endless cycle of washing, drying, and stepping onto damp terry cloth that instantly ruins the feel of a clean bathroom. We knew there had to be a more hygienic, sculptural alternative that actually looked good left out.

We designed the CURV with a fluted, architectural finish that mimics premium bathroom textures, while hiding heavy-duty suction underneath for safety. It’s a completely different tactile experience, visually quiet, easy to wipe down, and it drapes casually over your tub like a piece of art instead of wet laundry.

How many times a week are you tossing your current cloth bath mat into the washing machine?

When it comes to the ceramics we use daily, we often overlook how much their weight, texture, and finish actually impact a simple meal. Our community member Daneille recently added a new staple to her kitchen rotation, and you can see exactly why she chose it right here: https://designstuff.com.au/products/hay-barro-plate-18cm-off-white-set-of-2. She mentioned purchasing them for their beautiful simplicity and neutral colour, which hits the nail perfectly on the head. You shouldn't need a formal dinner party to pull out the good tableware.

The HAY Barro Plates bring this incredible, grounded warmth to the dining table. They celebrate the tactile, earthy beauty of terracotta, finished in a soft off-white glaze that feels both raw and refined. It’s the kind of piece that makes a rushed piece of toast or a quick afternoon snack feel just a little more intentional.

When your cupboards are stocked with pieces that actually feel good in your hands, the whole rhythm of the kitchen shifts. You stop rushing through breakfast and actually sit down to enjoy it.
