DCP Hub

DCP Hub DCP Hub supports donor conceived people (DCP) as they come to understand what being a DCP means to them.

Creating educational events that focus on Donor Conceived People, sharing lessons of previous generations with new Parents via donor conception so they can better support their kids. We create educational events and support services that hold the DCP at the centre. We also aim to educate DCPs family and friends, as well as donors, so they can better support the DCP they love. DCP Hub stand for and advocate for Honesty, Kindness and respect, and Inclusion.

🧡Today is National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day.💚

This year's theme, "Living Our Truth," celebrates the voices, stories and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and communities. It reminds us that truth-telling is more than sharing facts—it's about identity, belonging, culture and connection across generations.

At DCP Hub, we believe every child deserves to grow up knowing their story. While every child's story is different, honesty, openness and age-appropriate truth-telling help children build a strong sense of who they are and where they come from.

Today, we acknowledge the enduring strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities and Elders, whose knowledge and stories continue to shape future generations.

🧡Should you seek out your donor before your child turns 18?

Its a question most parents via donor conception ask themselves at some point because, as legendary computer programmer and author Ellen Ullman says, "its deeply natural to want to know [about our genetics]".

We explore the risks and benefits of this decision in our Considerations for Early Donor Contact webinar, which we ran last week. If you missed it, you can still access the recording - but only until tomorrow!

You'll hear from parents, donors, a lawyer, and counsellor.

In her feedback form, one attendee Kate said "Thank you! I have just watched the webinar and found it very informative. The work you had put into it was evident, and the presenters were well chosen."

There's something pretty special about chatting with people on the other side of the world who care about the same thing you do. 💚

This week's virtual coffee was with Kate from the in the UK... while Meike sat here rugged up in winter, trying not to be too jealous of Kate's summer wardrobe! ☀️😄

One of the things we value most at DCP Hub is building relationships with others who are working to improve the lives of donor conceived people. Sharing ideas, learning from each other, and understanding what's happening around the world helps us do a better job for the DCPs, families and professionals we support.

The Donor Conception Network has spent decades supporting parents of donor conceived children as they navigate the lifelong journey of donor conception. Their work has helped countless families have open, age-appropriate conversations from the very beginning.

We're also big fans of their beautiful books (many of which you'll find in the DCP Hub bookshop).

Thanks, Kate, for another inspiring conversation. We might have to start saving our 💰so we can attend your 2027 Spring conference in London!

Wondering what has happened with the Australian Goverment's Rapid Review into ART and IVF?

We were wondering too - we haven't really heard much since the recommendations were handed down in September last year.

So we've added an update to the "Registries and Laws" page of our website to make it easy for you to keep on top of progress.

Check out the latest at https://www.dcphub.com.au/registries-laws

"The people who reassure us most aren't always the ones with the most knowledge—they're often the ones who can honestly say, 'I've been there too.'" Its something Meike, our co-founder says oftenn.

And its why we run DCP Hub VIP events specifically for donor conceived kids aged 8 and over. By this age, they know that families come in different shapes and sizes, and they're often trying to figure out how theirs fits in. Peer support like this can help to normalise difference.

Sometimes the mental load of explaining it gets heavy, and its nice to be with kids who "just get it".

If you're in Melbourne and have a donor conceived child aged 8+ we'd love to see them for some 10 pin bowling next month so they can hang out with others who share similar experiences.

📅 Saturday 22 August 5pm
📍Strike Bowling, Chadstone
😍 Open to all DC kids regardless of family shape or donor type

💚Head to https://www.dcphub.com.au/events/bowlarama and book a spot for your child.🧡

See you there!

Today it was a chat with Alisha from Solo Mum Society to share ideas, explore business overlaps and where we can support each other in supporting donor conceived families.

Parents told Donor Conception Support with Paths to Parenthub that they need better psychological and emotional support beyond the fertility treatment journey. We believe that the support services available from individual businesses and organisations can be upscaled and expanded by collaborating with others where underlying values and purpose align.

💚We'd love to hear what areas of support you need - add a comment or DM us with your ideas and experiences. 🧡

For many people, infertility and donor conception have been surrounded by silence.

Silence born from grief.
Silence born from stigma.
Silence born from not knowing who it's safe to talk to.

But silence can also keep shame alive.

When parents, donor conceived people and donors share their stories in safe, respectful spaces, something powerful happens.

✅ We realise we're not alone.
✅ We challenge outdated assumptions.
✅ We replace myths with understanding.
✅ We create a future where donor conceived children grow up in a world that understands and affirms their story.

As Ann Voskamp says "Shame dies when stories are told in safe places."

💚This is why lived experience is at the heart of everything we do at DCP Hub.

Our internationally recognised webinars and events don't just present research—they bring together donor conceived people, donors and recipient parents to share their perspectives alongside leading experts. Because the most meaningful learning happens when evidence and lived experience come together.

It's also why we've created Australia's dedicated donor conception bookshop, carefully curating books that help families start conversations, answer questions and build understanding from an early age.

By sharing our stories, we don't just heal ourselves.

We help create a world where the next generation of donor conceived people grows up with less stigma, more understanding, and a stronger sense of belonging.

🧡If you'd like to stay up to date with our latest webinars, events, expert resources and the newest titles in our donor conception bookshop, sign up to our newsletter at www.dcphub.com.au.

Should there be a global limit on how many families can be created from a single s***m donor?

A new article explores calls from a European fertility group for international limits on s***m donation, arguing that stronger oversight is needed as donor conception increasingly crosses borders.

It's an important conversation—but it also highlights just how difficult it is to create consistent laws, even within a single country.

Here in Australia, assisted reproductive treatment (ART) legislation is determined by each state and territory. Family limits, donor registers and other key aspects of donor conception vary depending on where you live. If we can't achieve national consistency, creating international agreement becomes an even greater challenge.

That said, we agree with Dutch donor conceived advocate Ties van der Meer that ESHRE's proposed limit is a "positive first step" because "you have to start somewhere." Waiting for a perfect global solution shouldn't prevent meaningful progress today.

As donor conception becomes increasingly global, families, donors and donor conceived people deserve legislation that is evidence-based, practical and as consistent as possible—reducing confusion while protecting everyone involved.

🌍🧡Today is World IVF Day💚

Today, on the birthday of the world's first baby conceived through IVF, we celebrate the incredible advances in fertility treatment that have helped millions of people around the world create the families they'd dreamed of.

IVF has brought hope where there was heartbreak, possibility where there was uncertainty, and joy to countless families. It's changed lives in extraordinary ways.

For many families, that journey has also included the use of donated s***m, eggs or embryos.

And with that begins another incredible journey.

Behind every donor conception story is a child who will one day grow into an adult with their own thoughts, feelings and questions about the way they came into the world. Their experiences matter just as much as the journey that brought them here.

At DCP Hub, we celebrate not only the science that makes donor conception possible, but also the lifelong commitment to raising donor conceived children with honesty, openness and pride in their story.

When we centre donor conceived voices, embrace transparency, and ensure children have access to information about their origins, we're giving them one of the greatest gifts of all: the opportunity to grow up feeling secure in who they are and where they come from.

Today, we're celebrating every family created through IVF, the advances in reproductive medicine that have made so many paths to parenthood possible, and every donor conceived person whose unique story deserves to be honoured, respected and heard.

💚Happy World IVF Day. Here's to creating families—and supporting them to flourish for a lifetime 🧡

Should two mums raising children together be considered one family... or two?

That's the question at the centre of this important article, after Queensland Health guidance led some fertility clinics to tell q***r couples they could no longer use the same donor if the other partner wanted to carry their next child. The guidance treats each birth parent as creating a separate donor-related family for the purposes of Queensland's donor family limit—a position that has been criticised by legal experts and advocates, who argue it misinterprets the legislation.

Families come in many forms, and our laws and policies need to keep pace with the diversity of modern families. When they don't, there's a real risk of creating unintended barriers and discrimination for people building their families through donor conception.

The impact isn't just practical—it can also be deeply personal. When children grow up seeing their family treated differently by the systems around them, they may begin to internalise the message that their family is somehow "less than." That can contribute to feelings of shame and stigma that no child should have to carry.

As donor conception continues to evolve, so too must the legislation and policies that govern it—ensuring they are fair, inclusive and reflect the society we live in today.
