You mainly make A4 stickers, cards, labels, smaller HTV or vinyl projects, want something compact, lightweight and more affordable, and don’t need 12" wide materials.

You want 12" cutting width, larger/longer projects, faster cutting, more specialty tools, better Print & Cut capability and more room to grow.

# # # ❓THE QUESTIONS WE GET ASKED MOST…
**“Can they both make stickers?”**
Absolutely! Both offer Print & Cut. If you're printing onto A4 sheets, the Portrait 4 is a fantastic little sticker machine. The CAMEO 5 Alpha gives you the advantage of its newer **4-point registration system**, plus the larger working area.
**“Can they both cut HTV and adhesive vinyl?”**
Yes! Both are excellent for everyday HTV and adhesive vinyl.
**“Do I need a cutting mat?”**
Not always. Both can cut suitable backed materials such as HTV and adhesive vinyl without a mat. For paper, cardstock and loose materials, you'll generally use a mat.
**“Can the Portrait cut 12-inch vinyl?”**
No - and this is probably the BIGGEST deciding factor. If you regularly buy **30cm/12" wide vinyl, HTV or cardstock**, choose the CAMEO.
**“Do I need a printer?”**
Only if you want to **Print & Cut**. For regular vinyl, HTV, cardstock and other cut-only projects, no printer is required.
**“Which one is better for a beginner?”**
Both! The Portrait isn't a beginner machine that you'll necessarily have to replace later - if its size suits the projects you make, it could be all you'll ever need.
**“Which would you choose for a small business?”**
👉 **CAMEO 5 Alpha.** The extra width, substantially faster cutting speed, longer cuts and broader tool compatibility make the extra capability worthwhile.
**“I don't know what I'll want to make in 12 months. Which should I buy?”**
