Sensory overload isn't just something children experience. Parents do too.

Sensory overload happens when your brain receives more information from your senses than it can comfortably process.

As parents, we're constantly juggling...
๐Ÿ’ญ The mental load
๐Ÿ”Š The noise
๐Ÿ“ฑ The notifications
๐Ÿฝ๏ธ The meals
๐Ÿš— The school runs
๐Ÿ’™ Everyone else's needs

Sometimes it all becomes too muchโ€”and even the smallest things can feel overwhelming.

That's okay. You're human.

Taking a few moments to reset isn't selfishโ€”it's essential.
We'd love to hear from you...

Have you ever experienced sensory overload? What helps you cope when everything feels like too much?

Share your tips belowโ€”you never know who you might help. ๐Ÿ‘‡

Sensory seeking is communication.

When a person is jumping, squeezing, spinning, crashing, hiding or pulling... they're not trying to be "naughty" or "difficult."

They're telling us something.

Their body is saying:

"I need more sensory input."

These behaviours aren't randomโ€”they're signals that their nervous system is seeking the input it needs to feel regulated.

The goal isn't to stop the behaviour.

The goal is to understand why it's happening and provide safe, appropriate alternatives that meet that sensory need.

When we support regulation instead of simply correcting behaviour, we help build calm, confidence, learning and connection.

Sometimes, the most powerful thing we can do is stop asking,
"How do I stop this behaviour?"
and start asking,
"What is this behaviour trying to tell me?"

A gentle reminder to ourselvesโ€”and our kids: ๐ŸŒŸ

You are enough to radiate happiness!
Embrace the tiny triumphs, laugh unapologetically, and unconditionally be YOU.

You are worthy of joy, just as you are, in this very moment!

26/07/2026

This Monday 2.00pm

AusAlert is a new Australian Government emergency alert system that sends near-instant emergency messages to compatible mobile phones, tablets and smartwatches to help people stay safe during emergencies.

For people with disability, AusAlert can support earlier decision making by helping them:
Prepare, evacuate or move earlier.
Follow their personal emergency plan.
Arrange support or safely use mobility aids.
Make informed decisions during an emergency.

Accessibility features
AusAlerts use sound, vibration and on-screen messages to attract attention. Alerts may include a 10 second siren like sound, which may be distressing for some people, including those with sensory sensitivities.

The system includes accessibility features:
People who are d/Deaf or hard of hearing: Alerts can vibrate devices, activate screens, work with hearing aids, cochlear implants and assistive devices such as bed shakers.
People who are blind or have low vision: Alerts can be read aloud using text-to-speech and work with screen readers, refreshable braille displays and screen magnification tools.
Some people may find alerts difficult to see, hear, feel or understand, or may need information repeated or presented in a different format.

Receiving an AusAlert
If you receive an alert:
Read the message carefully.
Ask a trusted person for help if needed.
Follow the instructions provided.

Not receiving an alert may be because:
Your device was switched off or in aeroplane mode.
Your device is not compatible (some devices made before 2019 may not support AusAlert).

Other ways to stay informed
AusAlert is only one source of emergency information. People should also monitor:
ABC radio (Australia's official emergency broadcaster)
Television
Emergency services websites and apps
Social media
Family, friends, neighbours or carers

Managing alerts
AusAlerts contain life-saving information and should remain enabled where possible. However, users can adjust how alerts appear or disable some alert features if they cause distress, while ensuring they continue to receive emergency information through other sources.

Privacy and security
AusAlert is operated by the Australian Government. It:
Does not require registration or an app.
Does not collect or store personal information, phone numbers or location data.
Will never ask for personal or financial information.

National testing
A national AusAlert test will take place on Monday, 27 July 2026, when all compatible mobile devices across Australia will receive a test Critical Alert.
