Join us at ALOW Gallery this Saturday, 8 November (10am–2pm) to meet Abbey McCulloch, the artist behind HOME.

A three-time Archibald Prize finalist, Abbey’s work captures the tension between chaos and calm — intimate, raw portraits that explore the restless, conflicted, and beautiful state of being human.

✨ What a night! So grateful to hold space for the incredible Abbey McCulloch and her first exhibition in 17 years on the Gold Coast. It was such a gift to see her in conversation with her local audience and to experience this amazing body of work together.

The energy in the room, the conversations, the connection, it all reminded us that culture is very much alive and thriving right here, not just in the big cities.

Even the skies cleared for us 🌤️ a small miracle after the storm.

HOME is now open weekdays 10am – 4pm, until November 14.

Abbey McCulloch is one of Australia’s most recognised contemporary painters, known for her unmistakable pastel tones and intuitive, unguarded mark-making.

Through her work, she explores the quiet power and contradictions of womanhood — strength and vulnerability, chaos and calm.

A three-time Archibald Prize finalist, with portraits of Toni Collette and Naomi Watts, has been named among Australian Art Collector’s 50 Most Collectable Artists three years running, exhibiting across Australia and abroad.

Her latest series, HOME, is a raw and reflective look at finding calm, strength, and belonging within oneself.

After more than 17 years, celebrated artist presents her first solo exhibition on the Gold Coast since 2007 — HOME.

Through electric pastel tones and tender lines, Abbey explores the intricate relationships between women, the complexities of selfhood, and the quiet power found in coming back to oneself. In an age of constant distraction, her calm, self-assured figures invite us inward — to find peace with who we are and where we belong.

This exhibition marks a deeply personal homecoming for Abbey — a chance to reconnect with her local audience and share a new body of work that feels both intimate and universal.
