Aztec Gold. Hard to walk past.

This is the Late '50s Strat from Fender's Vintera III run. One piece of maple for the neck with a soft V profile, late '50s voiced single coils, and vintage style hardware right through.

The neck is what people talk about once they've picked it up. If you've only ever played a modern C shape, the V sits differently in your hand. Give it five minutes.

This is the Late '50s Strat from Fender's Vintera III run. One piece of maple for the neck with a soft V profile, late '50s voiced single coils, and vintage style hardware right through.

This one is meant to be played flat out. Single channel, no master volume - the only way it sounds right is wide open, and at three watts you can actually do that in a room.

It is all valve: three ECC83s and a 12BH7 doing the work, made in the UK. Flick the brake on the front and it drops to a tenth of a watt if even three is too much. Round the back there is a Two Notes Torpedo with a DI out and a headphone jack, so it will also record straight into an interface with no cab and no mic - handy, but not the reason to buy it.

It is sitting on a CUB 1x12 out the front. Head and cab are both here and can go home together or separately - come and turn it up properly.

Black Country Customs is the pedal side of Laney, built by hand in the UK, and there's one of each of these four in the shop.

The Difference Engine is the one to spend time with. Three delay engines in one box, tape, clean digital and a ducking mode after the old 2290, and you can borrow features across them. It ships with artist presets, Tony Iommi's among them, which is a nice loop given whose amps these are. The Secret Path, Monolith and Steelpark are the simple ones: a reverb, a distortion and a boost.

A Bass VI doesn't come through very often. This one's in.

It's tuned a full octave below a guitar, but at 30in it plays like one. Three pickups with their own on/off switches, and the Fender Mute still sitting on the bridge so you can palm it down to that dead thud. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. The Cure. You've heard it more than you think.
