We made the news!

15/04/2026

G’day everyone! Alysha is in the drum room at Mooloolaba Music to walk us through the Yamaha DTX6K-M. The "M" stands for Mesh Heads, providing that authentic feel and response drummers crave, but the real magic is happening inside the brain and the new DTX Touch App.

If you've felt limited by standard electronic kits, this video is for you. We’re diving deep into the customization, zero-lag response, and the specialized EQ settings that make this the perfect kit for both the studio and the stage.

Shop the Yamaha DTX Series: [Link to Website]

🥁 THE HARDWARE: DTX6K-M
Mesh Heads: High-quality mesh on the snare and toms for a natural rebound and quiet practice.

TCS Zones: Individual zones for heads and rims, allowing you to assign completely different voices to different parts of the drum.

The Module: Features the "Kit Modifier" k***s for instant control over Ambience, Compression, and Effects without menu-diving.

📱 THE DTX TOUCH APP
This isn't just a remote—it’s a full-scale production suite for your kit:

Total Voice Control: Swap any snare for a tom, an electric pop, or even a Japan-inspired kit with zero latency.

Dual EQ Processing: A feature rarely seen in this category—the ability to EQ your Phones (your in-ear mix) differently from the Master (Front of House). Boost the bass in your ears while keeping the house mix flat!

Deep Trigger Edits: Adjust release times and sensitivity to match your specific playing style.

User Kits: Build your dream configuration from scratch—two up, one down, or anything in between.

🚀 THE "MOL-MUSIC" TECH NUGGETS
Zero-Lag Architecture: The DTX Touch app communicates seamlessly with the module, ensuring that any tweak you make on the screen is reflected instantly in your ears.

In-Ear Independence: The separate Phones EQ is a "Holy Grail" for live drummers. You can dial back the highs to save your hearing while still sending a full-frequency signal to the sound engineer.

Vintage Nashville & Beyond: With hundreds of high-fidelity samples, you can go from a dry, vintage studio sound to a massive arena kit with a single swipe.

THE VERDICT
The DTX6K-M is a versatile, high-performance kit at an affordable price point. Whether you’re trying to keep stage noise down at church or building a professional practice rig at home, the combination of mesh heads and the DTX Touch app offers limitless possibilities.

Are you a "mesh head" convert, or do you still prefer rubber pads? Let us know what you think of that separate EQ feature in the comments! 👇

G’day everyone! Chris (the guitar tech) here at Mooloolaba Music, and today we have a very special guest in the shop. James Tyler is a name that has been spoken about in hushed, legendary tones for decades, and we are stoked to have the JTG Series Mark I right here on the Sunshine Coast.

The JTG series is James Tyler doing something different: providing that world-class craftsmanship, versatility, and "Tyler vibe" at a price point that doesn't require a second mortgage. It’s all the "oomph" without the $14,000 price tag.

Check out the James Tyler Range: [Link to Website]

✨ THE SPECS & FINISH
This particular Mark I is finished in a stunning Black Metallic Sparkle with gold trimmings and a Mother of Pearl pickguard. It’s a bold look for a bold guitar.

Body: Two-piece Alder body with beautiful contours.

Neck: Hard Canadian Maple with a comfortable matte finish.

Fingerboard: Rosewood with a compound radius and perfectly rolled edges—no "spiky bits" here, just pure comfort.

The Headstock: The iconic, polarizing James Tyler headstock (which Chris notes can double as a cricket bat in a pinch).

🕹️ ELECTRONICS & THE MID-BOOST
This is where the James Tyler magic really happens. The HSS configuration offers a massive tonal palette:

Pickups: Two JT5000 single coils and one Super Humbucker in the bridge.

The Secret Weapon: An onboard Mid-Boost with a dedicated bypass button.

The Sound: Flick the bypass and roll the boost forward for instant grit, output, and distortion without ever touching a pedal.

🔧 HARDWARE & STABILITY
Locking Tuners: 51 logos later, you’ll find Tyler-branded locking tuners on every string.

Two-Point Trem: Combined with a deep break angle over the nut (no string trees needed), this setup offers rock-solid tuning stability even with heavy trem use.

Quality Parts: High-end CTS pots ensure your volume and tone sweeps are as smooth as the rolled fretboard edges.

THE VERDICT
Whether you’re a session pro or just getting into high-end instruments, the JTG Series delivers incredible quality control and tonal versatility. It’s warm, buttery, and when you kick in that mid-boost, it’s a total beast.

What do you reckon? Are you a fan of the 51 logos, and does that mid-boost change the game for your HSS setup? Let us know in the comments! 👇

G’day everyone! Chris (the guitar tech) and Jazz are back at Mooloolaba Music for a heavy-hitting comparison of the legendary "Workhorse." Today, we’re putting the flagship Gibson 1942 Banner J-45 up against the highly anticipated Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom 1942 Banner J-45.

One is a meticulous, hand-crafted recreation of the most cherished era in acoustic history; the other is a pro-spec powerhouse designed to bring that authentic vintage feel to a more accessible price point. Can the Epiphone hold its own, or is there really no substitute for the "Real Deal"?

Shop the Banner Series:

Gibson 1942 Banner J-45

Epiphone Banner J-45

THE GIBSON 1942 BANNER J-45
Top Wood: Thermally Aged Adirondack (Red) Spruce for that "pre-war" snap and headroom.

Construction: Adhered with traditional Hot Hide Glue for unmatched resonance and tonal transfer.

Finish: Thin-skin Nitrocellulose Lacquer that allows the wood to breathe and age naturally.

Bridge/Pins: Rosewood "Belly Up" bridge with a traditional bone nut and saddle combination.

The "Feel": Hand-made craftsmanship that resonates through your whole body when you hit that low G-chord.

THE EPIPHONE 1942 BANNER J-45
Top Wood: Thermally Aged Solid Spruce Top paired with solid mahogany back and sides.

Neck Profile: One-piece mahogany neck with a comfortable, era-correct V-shaped profile.

Electronics: Stage and studio ready with a factory-installed LR Baggs VTC pickup system.

Hardware: Open-faced back tuners and an aged cream binding that pays perfect homage to the original.

The "Value": An incredibly accessible way to get the authentic J-45 vibe and "Inspired by Gibson Custom" quality in your hands.

THE VERDICT
As the guys discuss, it often comes down to the "Gibson feel"—that handmade resonance that’s hard to quantify. However, with the Epiphone offering premium solid woods and the versatility of the LR Baggs system, it’s a serious contender for any gigging musician or songwriter looking for that iconic J-45 thump without the custom shop price tag.

G’day guys! Chris and Jazz are back at Mooloolaba Music to settle the big debate: The Gibson SG Standard vs. the Epiphone SG Standard.

We’re looking at the iconic "Christmas" duo—the Translucent Teal Gibson and the Heritage Cherry Epiphone. Is the Gibson worth the extra investment, or does the Epiphone provide everything a modern player needs? We’re running both through the exact same rig to give you a pure tone comparison.

Shop the SG Range: [Link to Website]

THE GIBSON SG STANDARD (Translucent Teal)
Pickups: 490R & 490T Alnico Humbuckers. These provide that classic, mid-forward Gibson growl with a vintage output.

Finish: Gloss Nitrocellulose Lacquer. A thin finish that allows the mahogany to resonate naturally and ages beautifully over time.

Fingerboard: Premium Indian Rosewood with a classic cream binding.

Hardware: Lightweight Aluminum Nashville Tune-O-Matic bridge and stopbar for maximum sustain.

The "Real Deal": Crafted in the USA, this is a professional-grade instrument built to be a lifelong heirloom.

THE EPIPHONE SG STANDARD (Heritage Cherry)
Pickups: ProBucker 2 (Neck) and ProBucker 3 (Bridge). Designed to recreate the feel of vintage PAF humbuckers at an accessible price.

Fingerboard: Indian Laurel. A smooth-playing alternative that provides great snap and response.

Neck Profile: 60s SlimTaper Mahogany neck for fast, unimpeded access to all 22 frets.

Value: The ultimate "bang-for-your-buck" hero. Perfect for students, bedroom players, or gigging pros who need a reliable backup.

KEY SHARED FEATURES
Mahogany Construction: Both guitars feature solid mahogany bodies and necks for that legendary sustain and warmth.

Grover Rotomatic Tuners: World-class tuning stability on both headstocks.

Classic Styling: Both instruments stay true to the original 1960s double-cutaway silhouette that defined rock and roll.

THE VERDICT
As Jazz and Chris discuss, the Epiphone is an incredible entry point for young artists, while the Gibson is the "special treat"—a high-end instrument that typically appreciates in value and feel the more you play it. Both deliver that bitey, growly tone that everyone looks for in an SG.

Which one would you choose? The Teal Gibson or the Cherry Epiphone? Let us know in the comments below! 👇
