Prepare for Bush Fire Season with Get Ready Weekend 2026
As the bush fire season approaches, now is the time to understand your bush fire risk and take simple steps to prepare your home, property and family.
To help you get ready, the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) hosts Get Ready Weekend events across the state, providing free information, practical advice and resources to help you prepare before the fire season begins.
With hundreds of events taking place across NSW, Get Ready Weekend is your opportunity to get practical advice from your local RFS brigade, ask questions about your property's bush fire risk and learn simple actions that could make a real difference this fire season.
Every event is different, but many include demonstrations, displays, family-friendly activities, practical advice from volunteers and resources to help you prepare for the bush fire season.
You can also learn how to create a Bush Fire Survival Plan, prepare your home and property, understand the Australian Fire Danger Rating System (AFDRS), and discover the steps you can take to be better prepared.
Get Ready Weekend 2026 will be held across NSW, with most events taking place on 19–20 September.

NAIDOC Big Day Out in Mogo - Walawaani Njindiwan.
What a great way to spend time, coming together as the community, supporting each other, "Blak, Loud and Proud". Thanks to the Mogo Committee and Elders who made this fabulous day happen, it couldn't have been done without your efforts in making this happen. It was also great to see Mathew Hatcher - Mayor Eurobodalla Shire taking the time to attend and catching up with the community.
There was a traditional opening Smoking Ceremony, live music, carnival rides, a jumping castle, obstacle course, Cultural dancing and activities, arts and crafts, and a stack of community organisations. Plus free food and drinks, you couldn't ask for anything else. 😊

Looking south, we can see how Mogo Village has so much to offer. When was the last time you went for a walk from one end of the town to the other and explored all the businesses along both sides of the streets of Mogo?
Well, here is your challenge: Are you up for it?
The next time you've got the pleasure of being in Mogo, take the time to stop and go for a walk from one end of town to the other and back. Enjoy, look, shop, eat, and drink.
You won't be disappointed. 🥰

The River of Art Festival is back, marking its 20th year of celebrating creativity, community, and the stunning South Coast of New South Wales. From 27 September to 7 October.

A highlight of this year’s event is Mogo Festival Day, taking place on Sunday 6 October from 10am to 4pm, throughout the village of Mogo. The park opposite Clocktower Arcade will be alive all day with hands-on activities and giveaways for young and old presented by Artists for the Earth Eurobodalla.

Mogo Rural Fire Service will be holding a sausage sizzle, there will be live music and, weather permitting, kids can learn about fire safety and try out the “smoke house”.

The fantastic twenty-piece brass band, Total Fire Band, will liven the spirits and turn Mogo into downtown New Orleans. Follow their march from the RFS stand to the Mogo Ice Creamery and Diner.

The Fires to Flourish building will host Ron “Callo” Callaghan. Callo is a south coast institution and has been playing his unique blend of blues, rock and country in the region for over 30 years.

Enjoy acoustic indie-rock duo Violet Young and Elisie at Grumpy and Sweethearts Cafe, and wander the village for more live music or take a leisurely seat on one of the hay bales.

The Gallery Mogo will be hosting a free kids’ art exhibition and activities and demonstrations of wood turning skills.

Mogo retailers have come on board to support Mogo Festival Day at River of Art with discounts and specials deals on the day including the Mogo Nursery, Mogo Bowerbird Garage, Willow Earth, Romans Leather Goods, Old Dairy, Mogo Village Framers, Hidden Treasures, Mogo Pottery and Paintings, Archie Jade and Mogo Collective.

The River of Art website lists a comprehensive program of events running up and down the coast from 27 September right through to 7 October, and you can even plan your itinerary online, so you don't miss a thing.
